Richard Brener is President & Chief Creative Officer of New Line Cinema. In this role, he oversees all aspects of development and production for New Line’s film slate.
During his tenure, Brener has supervised and served as Executive Producer on many of the company’s most successful films, including global blockbusters “Shazam!,” “San Andreas,” “Central Intelligence,” “Lights Out,” “We’re the Millers,” “Horrible Bosses,” “Sex and the City,” “Wedding Crashers” and “Austin Powers in Goldmember.” He has also guided the top two horror franchises in history: “The Conjuring” universe, composed of “The Conjuring,” “The Conjuring 2,” “Annabelle,” “Annabelle: Creation,” “Annabelle Comes Home,” “The Nun” and the upcoming “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”; and the record-breaking two-film adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic horror novel “IT.” “The Conjuring” and “IT” film series are the only two theatrical horror franchises to surpass the billion-dollar benchmark.
New Line’s upcoming films include the highly anticipated “The Many Saints of Newark,” a prequel to “The Sopranos”; Taylor Sheridan’s Western thriller “Those Who Wish Me Dead”; James Wan’s “Malignant”; and the action adventure “Mortal Kombat,” based on the blockbuster videogame franchise.
A New Line Cinema veteran of over 20 years, Brener joined the company as a temp and rose through the ranks from Story Editor to President & CCO. Over the course of his career, Brener has overseen the Studio’s relationship with much of its key talent, including Dwayne Johnson, Melissa McCarthy, Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell and Jason Bateman.
Born and raised in Short Hills, New Jersey, Brener graduated with a B.A. in history from Yale University.
