Brett A. Paul

Brett A. Paul serves as President of Warner Bros. Television, one of the entertainment industry’s most respected providers of original scripted programming, producing drama and comedy series for subscription on-demand/streaming platforms, premium/pay and basic cable channels, and the five broadcast networks. As the top business executive at the company, Brett supervises all business, operations, and production matters related to the Studio’s programming. As of December 2021, WBTV is producing more than 60 live-action scripted series, with hundreds of additional projects in various stages of development. He has served as WBTV President since May 2019, and also served as President of the Warner Horizon Scripted Television division from May 2014 until its merger with WBTV in August 2020.

Brett is tasked with mapping WBTV’s strategic direction in a multi-platform media landscape. WBTV maintains its position as a leading supplier of scripted programming to the broadcast networks and also serves its own affiliated platforms such as HBO and HBO Max, The CW, TNT, and TBS. Brett has been a leading advocate for and has spearheaded the company’s aggressive business expansion to supply scripted programming to streaming/on-demand services, premium/pay cable, and basic cable. The Studio now has an active roster of current series and programming in development with Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, EPIX, Freeform, Hulu, IMDb TV, Netflix, OWN, Peacock, Showtime, Spectrum, Starz, and others. As a result of this strategic transformation, WBTV now produces more than 62% of its series for streaming services or cable.

Brett has personally led or been central to the studio’s structure and negotiation of a number of high-profile writer/producer/pod agreements, including Chuck Lorre, Greg Berlanti, J.J. Abrams/Bad Robot Productions, Michael Patrick King, Damon Lindelof (in each case from their original affiliation), John Wells Productions, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Archie Comics, and many others, most recently Ava DuVernay and Mindy Kaling. He has also overseen the Studio’s highest-profile talent agreements, including the long-term renegotiation for the casts of “The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Shameless,” “Supernatural” and many others.

In this role, he has direct operational oversight of dealmaking, business affairs, and original program licensing, as well as physical production, finance and estimating matters. He also maintains shared oversight of divisional legal and finance with Warner Bros. corporate.

Brett began his career at WBTV in 1995 as Vice President, Business Affairs, before being promoted to Executive Vice President, Business Affairs, Operations and Finance, in January 2006, and Executive Vice President in July 2008. Before joining WBTV, he was a member of the senior management team at All American Communications, and he previously worked as a corporate legal associate at both Hill Wynne Troop & Meisinger in Southern California and at Cahill, Gordon & Reindel in New York. He has proudly served on the Board of Directors of the Forum on Law, Culture & Society (www.folcs.org) since 2008.
