Wild Rovers

Original Theatrical Date: June 23, 1971

There comes a time in every man's life when he considers where he's been, what he's done and where he's going. That moment comes to both Ross Bodine (William Holden), after 20 years in the saddle, and his young cowboy buddy, Frank Post (Ryan O’Neal), so the two decide to rob a bank and settle into a comfortable life in Mexico rather than continue as a pair of Wild Rovers.

The robbery of the bank goes as planned for Bodine and Post, but they are relentlessly pursued by the sons of their former employer, Walter Buckman (Karl Malden).

In the course of the chase, which stretches from bordello to barroom brawl, Bodine and Post live more than either had in the 20 years before—but find the end to the chase far different than they had ever expected.

Filmmaker Blake Edwards made his name with The Pink Panther and other comedies, but he also showed great skill in other genres with the thriller Experiment in Terror, the drama Days of Wine and Roses and this nuanced paean to the West.

Genre: Western
