The acclaimed HBO fantasy drama series His Dark Materials returns for a second season, chronicling the epic adventures of Lyra (Dafne Keen), a young woman from another world who seems ordinary at first glance, but whose courage and destiny prove truly extraordinary.

Season 2 picks up within hours of S1’s tumultuous climax, with a distraught Lyra mourning the death of her best friend but determined to follow Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) into the unknown after he successfully opened a bridge to a new world, advancing his ultimate quest against the Authority to
create a new republic.

Finding herself in the strange and mysterious abandoned city Cittàgazze, Lyra meets Will (Amir Wilson), a boy from our world who’s also running from a troubled past. Together, Lyra and Will soon learn that their fates are tied to reuniting Will with his father John Parry (Andrew Scott), but their path is constantly thwarted as a war is waged between the nefarious, all-powerful Magisterium and the magical witch clans desperate to ensure Lyra’s fulfillment of a prophecy about a girl and a boy who will save the world. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) continues her search for Lyra with a fierce determination to bring her home by any means necessary.
