The root of evil is the love of money. Academy Award winners Humphrey Bogart and Walter Huston star with Tim Holt in this classic tale of the cunning, greed and paranoia caused by The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Three down-and-out Americans—two hard-luck drifters (Bogart and Holt) and a grizzled prospector (Huston)—pool the meager resources they have to follow a rumor of gold ore to be found somewhere in the Sierra Madre mountains.

While the three friends agree to split everything equally, once they discover a fortune in gold ore, greed and paranoia set in.

The film's place on the American Film Institute’s Top 100 American Films list reaffirms the movie's power.
