XM Signs “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” “The Tyra Banks Show” And “The Satellite Sisters” For New Women’s Talk Channel Take 5
(September 6, 2005 - Washington, D.C.) – XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR), the nation’s leading satellite radio provider projected to reach 6 million subscribers by year’s end, announced today that it will launch a new talk and lifestyle channel targeting women called “Take 5.” This new women’s channel will feature daily satellite radio broadcasts of the Daytime Emmy® Award-winning “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the critically acclaimed “The Satellite Sisters” radio show, featuring the Dolan sisters, and the new “Tyra Banks Show.” XM is also developing new original programming, including “The Judith Warner Show,” which will be hosted by the New York Times best-selling author of "Perfect Madness: Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety," among others. Take 5 will debut in October 2005.
“XM offers something for everyone. Take 5 will provide programming designed especially for women that is challenging, informative and entertaining,” said XM Satellite Radio President and CEO Hugh Panero. “XM is proud to have the involvement of dynamic and engaging women like Ellen DeGeneres, the Dolan sisters, Tyra Banks and Judith Warner on Take 5.”
In connection with the launch of Take 5 and the new season of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Ellen DeGeneres will be giving away Pioneer AirWare XM2go portable satellite radio receivers to the in-studio audience during the first week of season three.
“Bringing audio of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and the new ‘Tyra Banks Show’ to XM, America’s top satellite radio service, is an exciting way for us to further promote these television shows and expand their reach to new audiences outside the home among XM Satellite Radio’s subscribers,” said Jim Paratore, president of Telepictures Productions and executive vice president of Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
Additional XM original programming currently in development will be featured on the Take 5 lineup. A complete program lineup will be announced prior to next month’s launch.
To oversee Take 5 (XM Channel 155) and XM’s original programming for the channel, XM has hired Amy Reyer as director of women’s programming. Reyer has a Ph.D. in American Studies with a specialization in literature, popular culture and American lifestyles. Prior to joining XM, Reyer had her own production company, specializing in American lifestyles programming for the Internet, radio and television.
“XM’s decision to launch Take 5 and provide smart, compelling programming for anyone interested in learning, laughing and living well is a great addition to XM’s already strong programming lineup,” said Amy Reyer. “I am delighted to be a part of this new channel that offers women an opportunity to ‘take five’ from the hectic pace of their daily lives. With Ellen, Tyra, the Dolan Sisters and Judith Warner, we’re off to an amazing start and I’m anxious to help build even more programming into the schedule prior to our launch in October 2005.”
