(January 31, 2001 – Burbank, CA) – Kids’ WB!, a leader in kids’ television, and adrenaline-packed 3D-CGI animated series “Max Steel” will reach real extreme levels of adventure this season when the world’s greatest skateboard legend TONY HAWK ”shreds it up” in his first-ever special animated guest appearance. The exciting all-new episode, entitled “Extreme,” will air on Saturday, February 17 (8:00 a.m. ET / 7:00 a.m. PT).
“Max Steel” is the story of a 19-year-old college student and extreme sports enthusiast who is accidentally infused with nano-technology. In the episode, Team Steel heads to the Annual Del Oro Extreme competition to track a group of terrorists stealing computer components. When Max “rips it up” with real-life skateboard mega-star Tony Hawk, the adrenaline kicks up a notch as they try to defeat the assailants who are using stolen nitro-chips – a kind of high-tech steroid – to make themselves as powerful as Max Steel…
Fans of skateboard champion Tony Hawk are not sure if he is more gymnast, acrobat or magician! The only thing certain about Tony is that he has reached nearly mythic status as skateboarding’s greatest deity. Placing 1st or 2nd at nearly every event entered throughout his career, Tony has garnered fiercely loyal fans in the U.S. and around the world. At age 32, Tony is best known for his “900” (a mid-air 360 degree somersault done 2-1/2 times!) which existed only in theory…until Tony landed it – live – at the Summer ‘99 X-Games…and then again at MTV’s Sports & Music Festival. In 2000, Tony was awarded the ESPY for Best Alternative Athlete and secured a nationwide commentator position with ESPN. Additional tricks Tony has invented include Stale Fish, Kickflip McTwist, Variel 720. # # #
