Wikia and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Announce Partnership on Official Community for Action Game “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor”

(Dec. 18, 2013 – San Francisco, CA) – Wikia, the social universe of fandom and the ultimate source for powerful and relevant game expertise, along with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, today announced a partnership that empowers community to play a central role in the upcoming action game “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.” The initiative will unite an avid Wikia Middle-earth fan community with the “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” Wikia page as the official community site for the game. It will also debut “Palantir,” a companion iPad app named after the seeing stone from Middle-earth lore. Bringing a new innovation to gameplay, “Palantir” reveals additional layers of information, insights and fan-authored content to create an ultimate second-screen experience. Available in the Apple store late January, “Palantir” will provide gamers with the most up-to-date information and accurate guides and walkthroughs that exist on the web for “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” pre-release and post-launch. “The thriving Middle-earth communities within Wikia are a destination for impassioned fans, making the site a great choice for our official ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’ community,” said Russell Arons, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We are excited to partner with Wikia on ‘Palantir,’ a first of its kind companion experience which will be an innovative source of assets and exclusive content for ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’ fans to enjoy and share.” “Wikia is thrilled to connect the creative expertise and deep knowledge of our vast base of 100 million global fans of action and fantasy entertainment to the ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’ universe,” said Jennifer Betka, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Wikia. “This integrated experience will transform the way even the most knowledgeable superfans immerse themselves in and move through game play.” This partnership for the launch of “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” is the first major release to utilize Wikia’s complete spectrum of fan studio programs: The Lab, Wikia Stars and the newly introduced syndication services, which also powers “Palantir.” The Lab is the starting place for long lead activations and custom co-development programs, to help build fan engagement and awareness for major releases. The Lab is led by members from Wikia’s Stars Program, a select group with skills in various areas such as content creation, social media, community administration, design, code and overall ingenuity. Stars in The Lab have created the foundation for other “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” fans to engage in future phases. About Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment:
