The WB Makes A Major Commitment To The Summer Of 2004 With 13 Episodes Of “Summerland,” Starring Lori Loughlin

(August 21, 2003 – Burbank, CA) – The WB Network is making its most aggressive summer play ever as it has ordered 13 episodes, including the pilot, of “Summerland,” a family drama from Spelling Television, starring Lori Loughlin (“Full House”). The announcement was made today by Jordan Levin, President, Entertainment, The WB Network. Coming off of a reality-laden summer across the television landscape, The WB is going to do what it does best for summer 2004, by developing a quality scripted program, which will be earmarked to air throughout the entire summer season. “We wanted to bring a broad-based, blue-sky series to summer, which is why we committed these resources to this series,” said Mr. Levin. “We believe we are giving it its best chance to succeed.” Ms. Loughlin pitched “Summerland” to The WB’s drama development team of Executive Vice President Carolyn Bernstein and Vice President Maria Grasso. In the series, Loughlin plays a successful public defender, living the idyllic single life in her beautiful beach house. She is suddenly thrust into parenthood when her sister and brother-in-law die, leaving her to raise their three children. “Aaron Spelling is perhaps the most successful producer in the history of television, particularly with family and adult relationship dramas,” said Mr. Levin said. "‘Summerland’ couples those two themes and features Lori Loughlin, a big star whom audiences love.” Said Mr. Spelling, "We are thrilled to have another show on The WB.
