The WB’s “Super” February Sweep
(January 27, 2003 – Burbank, CA) — In addition to a rare guest appearance by feature film star Christopher Reeve and an original 2-hour movie adaptation of “The Lone Ranger,” The WB Network’s February sweep line-up will include original episodes of its dramas and comedies, featuring flashbacks and fights, breakups and births, affairs and autopsies, weddings, Wonderland and the Wild West.
Highlighting the sweep will be the appearance of superstar actor and activist Christopher Reeve on “SMALLVILLE” on Tuesday, February 25. Reeve, who starred as the Man of Steel in four blockbuster feature films, will play a brilliant scientist who has uncovered the secrets of the planet Krypton, and thereby holds the key to the mysteries surrounding Clark Kent’s (Tom Welling) past and future. A PSA with Reeve and Welling for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation will air at the conclusion of the episode. Throughout February, the action on “SMALLVILLE” remains fast and furious when Red Kryptonite brings out the worst in Clark on February 4, and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) is reunited with his long-lost brother on February 11.
“SMALLVILLE’S” Tuesday night lead-in, the critically acclaimed hit series “GILMORE GIRLS” features a touching flashback episode on Tuesday, February 4. As Christopher’s (David Sutcliffe) girlfriend Sherry (guest star Madchen Amick) goes into labor, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) is reminded of her own pregnancy. In a series of flashbacks, we see young Lorelai (guest star Chelsea Brumnet) in the days leading up to Rory’s (Alexis Bledel) birth. On February 11, Lorelai takes a trip to New York with a new beau (guest star Billy Burke), and Rory’s tumultuous relationship with Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) continues to have its ups and downs on February 18. A chance meeting with her former fiancé, Max (Scott Cohen) leaves Lorelai wondering if ending their relationship was a mistake on February 25.
Another special event gallops on to television screens on Wednesday, February 26, when The WB presents an original two-hour movie based on the classic Western hero, “THE LONE RANGER.” Set in the 19th century and starring Chad Michael Murray (“Gilmore Girls,” “Dawson’s Creek”) as the Masked Man and Nathaniel Arcand (“American Outlaws“) as Tonto, the saga begins with the introduction of Luke Hartman (Murray), a 20-year-old Boston law student whose life is turned upside-down when he is wounded in an ambush after witnessing the murder of his brother, a Texas Ranger. “THE LONE RANGER” is a tale of honor, love, betrayal and — most importantly — friendship.
Kicking off the first night of the sweep on Thursday, January 30, “THE SURREAL LIFE” cast spends a wild Saturday night partying, arguing and dancing up a storm in Las Vegas, then returns to Los Angeles for a Sunday morning church service led by ordained minister MC Hammer. After a group effort to find a date for Brande Roderick on February 6 and an extremely competitive softball game on February 13, the series finale features the real-life wedding of Corey Feldman on February 20. Also on Thursdays, “JKX: THE JAMIE KENNEDY EXPERIMENT” offers all original episodes. Jamie portrays a New Age exterminator known as the “Rat Whisperer” on January 30.
The WB’s Friday night comedy line-up begins with a note of fantasy on January 31, when “SABRINA, THE TEENAGE WITCH” (Melissa Joan Hart) finds herself at a mad tea party in Wonderland where she meets the White Rabbit (guest star Donny Most, “Happy Days”) in an episode directed by
another “Happy Days” co-star, Anson Williams, who also appears in a cameo role. Continuing the fantasy theme, Sabrina becomes part of a circus act on February 14 and must deal with competing suitors on February 21, when the group Sixpence None The Richer drops in for a guest appearance. Friday night’s newest hit comedy, “REBA,” has a lot of surprises in store beginning January 31, when Barbara Jean’s (Melissa Peterman) makeover transforms her into a redheaded Reba look-alike. Other “REBA” highlights include the February 7 episode when Reba favors viewers with a song, and a special Valentine’s Day episode on February 14 that brings Reba face-to-face with her feelings for a new man. “GREETINGS FROM TUCSON” welcomes special guest stars, including Wesley Jonathan (“What I Like About You”) as Maria’s (Aimee Garcia) new boyfriend on February 7, and country artist Jessica Andrews (“Who I Am“) and Jennifer Elise Cox (Jan from “The Brady Bunch” feature films) on February 21. On “WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU,” Val (Jennie Garth) has an embarrassing cheerleading incident on January 31, and Holly (Amanda Bynes) learns about office politics with guest stars Dan Cortese (“Veronica’s Closet,” “MTV Sports”) and Leslie Grossman (“Popular”) on February 7. Beginning February 1 and concluding on Valentine’s Day, February 14, all four of The WB’s Friday night comedies – “WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU,” “SABRINA,” “THE TEENAGE WITCH,” “REBA” and “GREETINGS FROM TUCSON” – will join in a “Chocolate Milk Mustache Kiss” Watch & Win contest. First prize is a trip for four to the set of a WB show.
Sunday nights will feature the supernatural connections of “CHARMED” and the intense human connections of “HIGH SCHOOL REUNION.” On February 2, The Charmed Ones fight the evil magic of voodoo dolls and, on February 16, the sisters lose their powers and realize that all magic - both good and evil – has disappeared in an event that is somehow connected to the birth of Piper’s (Holly Marie Combs) baby. On “HIGH SCHOOL REUNION,” romance beckons and rumors fly in episodes leading up to the February 16 series finale with a Prom Night party featuring the group Naughty By Nature.
The WB’s successful new Monday night team of “7th HEAVEN” and “EVERWOOD” has packed the sweep with drama and romance. On February 3, Eric (Stephen Collins) comforts Chandler’s (Jeremy London) father as he faces the ravages of lung cancer and Lucy goes on a date with Chandler’s
twin brother (Jeremy London’s real-life twin brother Jason London guest-stars). “7th HEAVEN” also kicks off Valentine’s week on February 10 with a long-awaited proposal and guest appearances by Bo Derek (“10”) and jazz legend Bobby Short. On “EVERWOOD,” the February 3 episode finds Ephram (Gregory Smith) intrigued with Colin’s (Mike Erwin) younger sister Laynie (guest star Nora Zehetner) who has returned to town from boarding school. On February 10, Dr. Andy Brown (Treat Williams) has a brush with Cupid when traveling psychologist Dr. Trott (guest star Jane Krakowski, “Ally McBeal”) returns to town, and on February 17, Drs. Brown and Abbott (Tom Amandes) perform an autopsy to solve a 30-year-old mystery. Finally, on February 24, Ephram confronts a long-repressed memory of his father cheating on his mother and is shocked when Andy finally reveals the truth.
Wednesdays heat up on “DAWSON’S CREEK” when Pacey and Joey come together over a game of Spin the Bottle at a wild party on February 5. The passions continue on February 12, when Pacey and Joey are accidentally locked inside a Kmart and spend a turbulent night together. “DAWSON’S CREEK’S” new Wednesday night partner, “ANGEL,” has its own share of turbulence beginning February 5 when Angel’s (David Boreanaz) friends turn him back into his evil alter-ego, Angelus, then discover that his soul has been stolen in an episode directed by “The Lord Of The Rings” star Sean Astin. Wednesdays will also feature a 2-hour special event with back-to-back episodes of “BIRDS OF PREY” on February 19. # # #
