WarnerTV Branded Services Launch In Finland Via Elisa’s New Video-On-Demand Service

International Branded Services and Finnish communications services provider Elisa Corporation have launched two WarnerTV subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) branded services in Finland. The announcement was made today by Malcolm Dudley-Smith, Executive Vice President–Business Management, Warner Bros. International Branded Services, and Mikael Rönnblad, Vice President, Consumer Services Business, Elisa Corporation. Under terms of the deal, two SVOD branded services – WarnerTV and WarnerFilms – featuring hit television series and blockbuster motion pictures from Warner Bros. Entertainment are available to Elisa Viihde customers in Finland. This deal marks the first launch of the WarnerTV branded service in Finland, and the first launch of the WarnerFilms brand in Europe. The WarnerTV branded service will offer around-the-clock, on-demand access to more than 500 episodes each year of drama, comedy and sci-fi television series. Programs featured on WarnerTV include “Friends,” “Two and a Half Men,” “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill” and “Smallville,” among others. WarnerFilms will present a slate of more than 150 theatrical motion pictures per year, including such worldwide hits as “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Ocean’s Eleven,” “The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded,” “The Shining” and “All the President’s Men,” among others. “Consumers continue to seek ways to view their favorite programming on demand, and the launch of WarnerTV and WarnerFilms will provide audiences in Finland the opportunity to access high-quality TV series and feature films whenever they want,” said Dudley-Smith. “WarnerTV and WarnerFilms are a fresh and exciting addition to our new and already very popular entertainment service called Elisa Viihde [“Elisa Entertainment”]. The launch of WarnerTV and WarnerFilms in Finland continues Warner Bros. WarnerTV has previously launched on over 15 platforms in nine EMEA territories, including Top Up TV, Tiscali TV, Virgin Media and BT Vision in the U.K.; FASTWEB in Italy; Maxdome in Germany; OnDemandDeutschland in Austria; Ziggo in the Netherlands; Free in France and USEN Corporation’s GyaO in Japan. Additionally, Warner Bros. International Branded Services recently announced plans to launch a WarnerTV-branded 24-hour, linear general entertainment channel throughout Asia in 2010, with distribution handled by HBO Asia. Elisa Viihde is a digital TV service of a new era allowing the user to record up to 2500 hours or 100 days of TV programme. That corresponds to 25 regular TV boxes. The service gives the possibility to record on all basic channels simultaneously. In addition to the remote control the programmes can be managed online or via mobile phone. The video-on-demand service provides further entertainment and a selection of over 1000 blockbusters at the touch of a button. Viewing can be started immediately and continued after a break anytime during the 24 hour rental period. Additionally, the superfast broadband connection opens the information highway and allows the customer to enjoy the joys of internet, like online gaming, to the fullest.
