Warner Premiere’s “The Clique” Wraps Production - Best-Selling Book Series Comes To DVD
(March 1, 2008 – Burbank, CA) – Production has wrapped in Rhode Island on Warner Premiere’s DVD series “The Clique,” based on the first book of the best-selling teen series by author Lisi Harrison, it was announced today by Diane Nelson, President, Warner Premiere.
“The Clique” is an ongoing series of books (nine to date) from Alloy Entertainment and publisher Little, Brown and Company that has sold more than 4.5 million copies in the U.S. and spent more than 120 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. Warner Premiere plans to produce feature length movies for the book series as a new franchise for the studio.
A Warner Premiere production, the first DVD in “The Clique” series is being directed by Emmy Award© winner Michael Lembeck (television’s “Friends,” “The Santa Clause 2,” “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause”) from a script by Liz Tigelaar (television’s “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “Dawson’s Creek”). Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein (television’s “Gossip Girl,” “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”) and Bob Levy (television’s “Gossip Girl,” “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”) are serving as producers and Bankable Productions’ Tyra Banks (“The Tyra Banks Show”) and Laura Armstrong are serving as executive producers.
“When we first read ‘The Clique’ books, we immediately knew we wanted to make features out of this series and the characters Lisi had created; now as it is all coming together, we couldn’t have wished for a better team with whom to launch this franchise on DVD,” said Diane Nelson, President Warner Premiere. “From the first meeting with Lisi, to getting to cast our very own clique of girls with director Michael and producers Les, Bob and Tyra, we have been incredibly excited, nearly as much as the fans themselves, to see the books come to life.”
"On behalf of the State of Rhode Island, our elected officials and citizens, we are extremely pleased to be hosting Warner Premiere's film adaptation of Lisi Harrison's ‘The Clique,’” said Steven Feinberg, Executive Director, Rhode Island Film and TV Office. “The series is just getting underway, and Rhode Island's film community looks forward to blossoming right along with Ms. Harrison's wonderful characters; we believe that this special story is in nurturing hands and that the Rhode Island Film and Television Office will strive to enhance ‘The Clique’ by offering our talented, hardworking crew as well as our amazing locations. We thank everyone involved for bringing ‘The Clique’ and the Warner Premiere team to our magnificent Ocean State."
Claire Lyons, the new girl from Orland(ew), Florida, has the nerve to show up at Octavian Country Day school (OCD) wearing Keds and two-year-old GAP overalls. She is clearly not top clique (aka The Pretty Committee) material and Massie, Alicia, Dylan, and Kristen have no problem letting everyone know it. Unfortunately, Claire’s family is staying in the guest house on Massie’s family’s huge estate and the girls are stuck with each other. Claire’s future looks worse than a Prada knockoff. But with a little luck and a lot of scheming, she might just stand a chance.
Introducing The Pretty Committee (TPC) -- In the role of Massie Block, the leader of The Pretty Committee and social queen of Westchester County, is Elizabeth McLaughlin, whose credits include appearances on such television shows as “Ugly Betty,” “The Dead Zone,” “Smallville” and “The Outer Limits.” Playing the sophisticated and elegant Alicia Rivera is Samantha Boscarino, who will be seen in the upcoming feature film “The Perfect Game.” Dylan Marvil, the chic red-head, is being played by Sophie Anna Everhard who most recently appeared on the popular Nickelodeon show “Zoey 101.” Rounding out the social elite, in the role of Kristen Gregory, the A student and top athlete, is Bridgit Mendler whose film credits include “Alice Upside Down” and “The Legend of Buddha.” Finally, in the role of Claire Lyons, the instant outsider to Westchester’s top clique, is film newcomer Ellen Taylor Marlow who recently appeared in the Broadway production of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” in the role of Jemima.
Michael Lembeck won an Emmy Award© and received 2 additional Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for his work on the television series “Friends.” His other television credits include multiple episodes of “Veronica’s Closet,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “News Radio” and “Coach.” He also directed the feature films “The Santa Clause 2” and “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.”
