Warner Home Video Releases The Ninth And Final Season Of “The Waltons” On DVD April 28, 2009

(January 27, 2009 – Burbank, CA) – The final season of the critically acclaimed, award-winning television series “The Waltons” will be released on DVD April 28, 2009 by Warner Home Video (WHV). Titled “The Waltons: The Complete Ninth Season,” the three-disc set features all 22 episodes from the series’ ninth season and retails for $39.98 SRP. Order due date is set for March 24, 2009. For nine seasons from 1972 to 1981, the Walton family was America’s family. Viewers’ hearts were captured by the story of John and Olivia Walton, their seven children, Grandpa and Grandma as they faced the Depression and World War II with not much more than a love of the land and the rock-solid support of each other. This elegiac final season is the ideal capstone to the Emmy®-honored and lovingly remembered series. The Walton boys endure terrifying dangers in Europe and the Pacific, then gratefully return to Walton’s Mountain when the war ends. Peace brings new challenges, but also new beginnings and – for many of the family, young and old – new love. Fans will be delighted to share the final good night with “The Waltons.” “One of the reasons ‘The Waltons’ has been such a success with viewers is because the series genuinely captured the spirit of family loyalty and conveyed the importance of good old-fashioned values in a timeless way,” commented Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. She added, “The first eight seasons of ‘The Waltons’ on DVD were very well received by consumers and we anticipate that fans will want to complete their Waltons library with the final volume. Given the difficult climate we are currently facing, we think the messages of love, hope and perseverance this series conveyed throughout its run will resonate very strongly with the public now.” “The Waltons,” which made its network television premiere on September 14, 1972 on CBS, follows one family’s journey as they run a lumber mill during the Great Depression in rural Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Created and narrated by author Earl Hamner, Jr., the program is a reflection of Hamner’s own upbringing during the same era, with his experiences re-told to the viewer through the eyes of aspiring writer John Boy Walton (originally portrayed by Richard Thomas). The close-knit family includes father John Walton, Sr. (Ralph Waite), his wife Olivia (Michael Learned), and their children John Boy, Mary Ellen, Jim-Bob, Elizabeth, Jason, Erin and Ben. Grandparents Zeb (Will Geer) and Esther (Ellen Corby) serve as the elders of this large and loving family, who together face the challenges of the 1930s and 1940s while living on Walton’s Mountain. Season Nine aired on CBS from November 20, 1980 to June 4, 1981 and featured 22 episodes. “The Waltons” enjoyed a total of nine years on CBS and earned a total of 13 Emmy® Awards during its run.
