Warner Home Video Brings More Classic Entertainment To DVD With The Release Of “The Waltons: The Movie Collection” Available January 26, 2010
(November 2, 2009 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Home Video (WHV) brings six heartwarming, made-for-television films from “The Waltons” franchise, one of the top award-winning series of all time, to DVD for the first time on January 26, 2010. Titled “The Waltons: The Movie Collection,” this release will feature six holiday and family celebration-themed “Waltons” movies on three discs. The set will retail for $39.98. Order due date has been scheduled for December 22, 2009.
Honesty, integrity and family are some of the themes that have always been central to “The Waltons” – a show that for nine seasons depicted the lives of an American family as they coped with the events that shaped this nation’s history. In the six reunion movies featured in this compilation, the lives of the Walton clan continue to unfold against the backdrop of the nation’s yesteryear.
Featured Films Include:
“A Wedding on Walton’s Mountain” – Set in the 1940’s after the Second World War, beautiful Erin Walton is set to marry, or will she have a change of heart when her ex-beau Ashley comes calling?
“Mother’s Day on Walton’s Mountain” – The Waltons are bursting with appreciation for the one who nurtured, instructed and loved them without measure: Mother.
“A Day for Thanks on Walton’s Mountain” – Life circumstances threaten to bring the Walton’s time honored Thanksgiving celebration to an end, but on the last Thursday of November, the heartfelt tradition lives on thanks to young Elizabeth.
“A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion” – In Fall 1963, a decade after the prior movie, the Waltons come together to rejoice in their accomplishments and mourn a national tragedy, the assassination of JFK.
“A Walton Wedding” – John Boy and Janet reject the high-society schemes of her meddling aunt-turned-wedding planner and opt for the homespun Blue Ridge Mountain warmth of “A Walton Wedding.”
“A Walton Easter” – A 1969 visit home has John-Boy wondering if it’s time to come home for keeps. The seven Walton siblings and their ever-growing broods reunite for Easter and their parents’ 40th anniversary.
These films originally aired between 1982 and 1997 on CBS, and starred most of the original cast of the show, including Ralph Waite (John Walton Sr.), Michael Learned (Olivia Walton), Ellen Corby (Grandma Esther Walton), Jon Walmsley (Jason Walton), Judy Norton Taylor (Mary Ellen Walton), Mary Beth McDonough (Erin Walton), Eric Scott (Ben Walton), David W. Harper (Jim-Bob Walton), Kami Cotler (Elizabeth Walton), Ronnie Claire Edwards (Corabeth Walton), Joe Conley (Ike Godsey), and many others, as well as the beloved Richard Thomas in his return to “The Waltons” as John-Boy Walton.
“Wholesome and at the same time highly entertaining, ‘The Waltons’ has been a tremendous success with viewers of all ages, offering wonderful, believable characters and compelling storylines to which we can all relate,” said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. She added, “After nine successful seasons of ‘The Waltons’ on DVD, Waltons fans can now complete their collection with these six delightful films, all on DVD for the first time. This is a must-have set for anyone who loves ‘The Waltons’ and for everyone who appreciates timeless, classic family entertainment.”
“The Waltons,” which made its network television premiere on September 14, 1972 on CBS, follows one family’s journey as they run a lumber mill during the Great Depression in rural Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Created and narrated by author Earl Hamner, Jr., the program is a reflection of Hamner’s own upbringing during the same era, with his experiences re-told to
the viewer through the eyes of aspiring writer John Boy Walton (originally portrayed by Richard Thomas).
“The Waltons” enjoyed a total of nine years on CBS and earned a total of 13 Emmy® Awards during its run.
All nine season of “The Waltons” are currently available on DVD from WHV.
