Warner Bros. Pictures And TV Network G4 Enter Into First-Look Agreement To Develop Movies From Video Game Properties

(May 12, 2003 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Pictures and gamer TV network G4® have signed a two-year first-look deal that would enable the Studio to develop motion pictures from game properties brought to them by G4. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President, Production, Warner Bros.Pictures, and Charles Hirschhorn, Founder and CEO, G4. Comcast-owned G4 is the only full-time television network devoted to the world of video games and the gamer lifestyle. Launched in April, 2002, G4 is committed to creating a lifestyle brand that is the premier source of entertainment, news and information about electronic games, including video, computer, online and wireless platforms. The network is targeted to 12-34 year-olds and showcases a wide variety of entertainment, talk and information programming that highlights the latest and most exciting games in the industry, as well as behind-the scenes information and in-depth analysis of the gamers’ world. Said Robinov, “Collaborating with Charles Hirschhorn and his team offers many possibilities, since they clearly have their fingers on the pulse of the gamer culture. I’m pleased to be in business with G4 in this exciting new venture.” “We love celebrating the achievements of game developers, publishers and gamers on G4 and are thrilled to help Warner Bros. Pictures develop some of these titles and talents for the big screen,” said Hirschhorn. “‘The Matrix Reloaded’ is the latest example of Warner Bros. Pictures’ commitment to innovative movies, and we’re excited that they embrace the reach and appeal of video games as a compelling, unique facet of entertainment.” Since launching just over a year ago, G4 has given viewers access to some of the video game industry’s most exciting events. Among many “firsts” were G4’s partnership with Microsoft to produce the first televised “Microsoft Xbox Halo National Championship Tournament,” as well as partnering with Electronic Arts to air “The Road to the Madden Challenge,” a 10-city tour in which gamers battled each other on the virtual field, playing Madden 2003. This summer, G4 will launch its signature programming event, G-Phoria, bringing together artists, developers, writers, musicians and gamers in a celebration featuring live bands, game dens and celebrities. G-Phoria also kicks off G4’s first Glow Awards, which honor the best game titles from the last 12 months. Programming culminates with a 90-minute G-Phoria special airing on G4 on August 8th at 8 p.m. About G4 G4 is the Comcast-owned 24-hour, seven-day-a-week television network dedicated to the world of video games.
