Warner Bros. International Television Signs Video-On-Demand Programming Deal For TV Series With UK’s Yes Television

(June 9, 2000 - Burbank, CA) - Warner Bros. International Television has signed a video-on-demand programming deal with Yes Television in the UK for the non-exclusive VOD rights to several live-action and animated television series. The announcement was made today by Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television, and Toby Russell, Head of Content, Yes Television. The multi-year agreement includes a rich array of programming from the Warner Bros. International Television library, ranging from hit series such as “Friends” and “ER,” to classic animation that includes Scooby Doo and the Looney Tunes, to popular comedies such as “Veronica’s Closet” and “Suddenly Susan.” These titles will all be available on demand to Yes Television subscribers in the UK on the Yes One and the Yes Kids channels. Yes Television’s service is true video-on-demand, meaning that viewers can watch what they want, when they want, as well as fast-forward, rewind, stop or pause programs as they choose within a 24-hour rental period. “We are pleased that our television product will join our feature films offered to subscribers of Yes,” said Schlesinger. “We view this as an exciting new distribution opportunity.” “We are delighted to be able to offer Yes Television subscribers these highly successful titles from Warner Bros. International Television,” said Russell. “On demand access to hit shows such as “Friends” and “ER” will be a great attraction to UK viewers.” ABOUT YES TELEVISION Yes Television is a broadband Internet television portal which delivers high quality video content to consumers' televisions over digital telecommunications and cable networks. Yes Television offers true on demand services, including movies on demand, which are available at any time without a fixed broadcast schedule. On demand offers the viewer the functions normally associated with a VCR - such as pause, stop, play, fast forward and rewind. Services are being expanded to create Total Television, which will combine on demand with broadcast television, enhanced TV Internet and TV e-mail, all within a single browser. Yes Television was launched in January 1999 by holding company Elmsdale Media Limited and has services operating in Cardiff and Hull and is preparing to pilot BT Yes Television in association with BT in London. Yes Television believes its VOD service is the first to operate over both DSL telephony and cable networks, the first to be deployed commercially at 4 Mbps and the first to deliver commercial VOD in Europe. ABOUT VIDEO ON DEMAND - REAL TIME INTERACTIVITY Yes Television's service is true video on demand, which means that viewers can watch what they want, when they want. This is not the same thing as near video on demand (NVOD), in which the same movie or programme starts at regular intervals across a number of broadcast channels. True VOD gives viewers real time interactivity and complete control over their viewing. True VOD, as offered by Yes Television, enables viewers to select a movie in an instant and then watch it at any convenient time. Viewers can also pause, rewind or fast forward the movie in the same way as a video tape, and watch it as many times as they like within a 24-hour rental period. Hundreds of top movies are available on Yes Television, supplied by Warner Bros, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Buena Vista International Television. Viewers can also choose from a range of children's programmes, music videos, travel services, sports features and television comedies and dramas. ABOUT WARNER BROS.
