Warner Bros. Consumer Products Teams Up With “Fashionista” Trio To Unveil Exclusive Designer Collection Inspired By Supergirl
(July 31, 2008 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Comics, today announced a collaboration with a trio of New York-based designers—Alice Roi, Laura Poretzky, and Shoshanna Gruss—all known for their namesake collections and unique twists on style to create the first, exclusive Supergirl designer fashion collection. The fresh Supergirl collection celebrates the heroic, positive, confident and independent woman, eager to express her inner “fashionista.”
“The collection Alice, Laura and Shoshanna have created embodies the empowered spirit and symbolism of the iconic Supergirl S-Shield,” said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “The creativity, diversity of style and the overall entrepreneurial spirit of these designers makes them perfect ambassadors of fashion for the Supergirl brand.”
Having grown up together in New York City, Alice, Laura and Shoshanna have known each other for nearly three decades and have been friends, collaborators and admirers of each other for almost as long. The Supergirl brand collectively reflects aspects of each designer’s unique style, personality, and accomplishments. Alice, known for her witty, punk spin on feminine dressing; Laura with her refined, sleek, uptown sensibilities; and Shoshanna, the flirty, feminine mom-about-town, known for her figure flattering silhouettes, each bring their own, “super powers” to the mix.
“For me, the collection embodies strength, style and grace. Women have so many choices today and wearing the Supergirl S-Shield will make them feel more confident and powerful,” said Laura Poretzky.
The Supergirl 2009 Resort collection will debut in exclusive stores in fall 2008. The collection of separates will consist of ready-to-wear items including dresses, skirts and tops, with prices in the contemporary range.
“As a working mother, I wanted this collection to communicate to girls that you can do it all. When I was younger, I had a clear vision of what I wanted to do with my career, and I want my daughter to know that she can do whatever she wants when she grows up,” said Shoshanna Gruss.
The Resort Pre-Spring 2008-2009 Collection features a fun, bold and easy mix of versatile styles for the multi-tasking girl’s around-the-clock wardrobe. The Supergirl S-Shield will be subtly incorporated on all pieces with tone-on-tone embroidery on buttons and back pockets. As a comfortable and fashionable collection, Supergirl radiates effortless, easy and confident style.
“I am hooked on Super Heroes. They are both real and fantastical, which is what I think we all should aspire to be in some way,” said Alice Roi.

The Supergirl design collective and collection will team up a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to help inspire and empower women to achieve their goals.
Samples from the upcoming collection will debut at international fashion industry trade event, MAGIC, in the Warner Bros. Consumer Products booth located in the Grand Lobby at the Las Vegas Convention Center from August 25-27, 2008.
