Warner Bros. Consumer Products Partners With Otis College Of Art And Design To Create Looney Tunes Design Programs
(April 30, 2001 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Consumer Products announced today that it is partnering with Otis College of Art and Design, a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD), to sponsor a competition to create new design programs based on two legendary Looney Tunes characters, Tweety and the Tasmanian Devil. The winning entries will be granted a scholarship award from Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
As part of the contest, twenty junior-year design students from Otis College of Art and Design will work on two programs to produce one concept board, five graphic treatments and five finished apparel and/or accessories sketches (silhouettes) for judging on May 7th. Ten of these students will work on a Junior Girl’s program centered on Tweety and ten will work on a Young Men’s program focused on Taz. One winner from each group will be selected on the same day by a panel of judges and presented with a monetary scholarship award, which can be used towards their senior year of design school.
“We are very pleased to be working with Otis College of Art and Design and their talented students to sponsor this program and bring the attitude of the Looney Tunes characters into the future world of art, design and fashion,” said Tom Gowan, Vice President, Marketing, Looney Tunes and Cartoon Network Properties for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “Taz’s unstoppable appeal to young men and Tweety’s bright attractiveness to young girls make them ideal cultural icons to establish this program around.”
“Our fashion and design students are truly excited about the opportunity to work with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on this innovative and imaginative design program,” said Rosemary Brantley, Chair, School of Fashion Design at the Otis College of Art and Design. “At Otis, the everyday object becomes a genuine work of art for our students and classic becomes contemporary. By bringing timeless and beloved cartoon favorites such as the Looney Tunes into the modern realm of art and design, we continue to push the fashion envelope.”
