Warner Bros. Consumer Products Announces Partnership With Taubman Centers To Launch Looney Tunes-Themed Play Areas Within Taubman Shopping Malls Around The Country
(August 16, 2005 - Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Consumer Products announced today that they are partnering with Taubman Centers, Inc. to launch Looney Tunes-themed children’s play areas within Taubman shopping centers around the country.
The first innovative indoor playscape will make its initial debut at Northlake Mall, an enclosed regional shopping center, which is celebrating its grand opening to the public on September 15, 2005 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Taubman developed and manages the Northlake property.
As part of this agreement, Taubman is planning to expand Northlake’s play area concept to new Taubman shopping centers throughout the country and retrofit select existing malls with variations on the Looney Tunes theme. Taubman owns and/or operates 22 shopping centers in 10 states.
“These days, going to the mall is no longer just about shopping.” said Jordan Sollitto, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and International Licensing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “It has become a way for parents to spend quality time with their children outside of the house. With this new entertainment concept, we are broadening the mall experience even further by bringing some of the world’s most beloved characters to families in a fun, interactive and engaging way. We are delighted to be working with Taubman Centers and know that the Looney Tunes-themed play areas are going to provide plenty of fun for children and parents alike.”
“We are very excited to partner with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on broadening the shopping experience for our guests,” said David Goldberg, Vice President, Sponsorship & Center Marketing for Taubman. “By adding dedicated Looney Tunes-themed play areas to our shopping centers, we are delivering a whole new level of entertainment to the parents and children that regularly visit our malls. We are looking forward to the grand opening of the first playscape and are eager to open many more. Each future play area will be custom designed and tailored to the unique attributes of its host community. Our shopping center visitors are sure to adore the irreverent fun that the Looney Tunes add to these malls.”
The 2,000-square-foot interactive play area at Northlake Mall allows kids to rub elbows with three-dimensional Looney Tunes favorites, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck the Tasmanian Devil (Taz), Speedy Gonzales, Marvin the Martian, Pepe Le Pew and Pussyfoot. Within this playscape area, Bugs Bunny sketches cartoon cels. A 4-foot-tall Taz squirts paint throughout the play area hitting an annoyed Daffy Duck, who bathes in a puddle of paint he’s overturned. A smitten, 16-foot Pepe Le Pew draws his beloved Penelope, while his upright tail acts as a slide and crawl-through.
For younger children, Pussyfoot lies underneath a work of art, and encourages safe climbing, while Speedy Gonzales, sombrero nearby, leans against oversized cheese clumps and acts as a gathering point where kids can meet new friends.
Pressure-activated sound chips will make the play area sound as good as it looks. Children who trot across sound-chip embedded components will hear paint drip from the overturned paint can, a squeaky eraser, paint squirts and more.
