Warner Bros.’ Irreverent Looney Tunes Characters - Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Wile E. Coyote And Tasmanian Devil Get Big Air With Launch Of “Taz Atti-Tour”
(April 19, 2001 – Los Angeles, CA) – Adrenaline-driven pro skaters and bikers from all over the world will roll into Ontario to compete in the first stop of the 2001 Mobile Skatepark Series (MSS) taking place at the Ontario Mills Mall from May 5 - 13. More than 60 of the world's best professional skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX riders, including mega-star Tony Hawk, will perform huge airs and technical grinds in front of enthusiastic crowds at the only interactive youth culture festival series in the world.
Warner Bros.’ legendary Looney Tunes™ characters including Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Wile E. Coyote and Tasmanian Devil will bring their own animated antics to the event with the launch of the “Taz Atti-Tour™.” Warner Bros. Consumer Products is partnering with the Aggressive Skaters Association to kick-off the tour.
The Mobile Skatepark Series features top pro competition in skateboarding, inline skating and freestyle BMX on a world-class street course and a 48 foot wide half-pipe. X Games legends and World Champions such as Rick Thorne (USA), Kevin Robinson (USA), John Parker (USA), Rune Glifberg (DEN), Fabiola da Silva (BRA), Taig Khris (FRA), Shane Yost (AUS), Cesar Mora (AUS) and Eito Yasutoko (JAP) will be among the more than sixty world-class athletes to compete in this international field of talent. In addition, last year’s #1 ranked street skateboarder, Pat Channita, will be performing demonstrations and clinics and judging an amateur skateboarding contest.
MSS was developed to offer a complete and interactive experience between the athletes and musicians and the myriad of young adults that follow extreme sports. The event also provides local kids the opportunity to skate or ride with the pros on the pro street course all week long as part of the event’s mobile skatepark concept. Local and regional bands will play live throughout each weekend and DJ’s will spin tunes on a specially designed stage next to the street course to further integrate the worlds of music and extreme sports. Other youth lifestyle activities such as video game contests, an internet café, breakdancing, clinics, autograph signings and a video viewing room round out the youth culture festival. More than 20 sponsors will display their wares in the festival area.
The Taz Atti-Tour, made up of a World Cup Skateboarding Amateur Contest, a pro Bicycle
Stunt Contest and the “Taz Team Challenge and Tony Hawk Demo,” marks the first time ever that the Looney Tunes bring their special brand of irreverence to the world of extreme sports.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to team up with the Aggressive Skaters Association and include our legendary Looney Tunes characters in this large-scale extreme sports festival,” said Tom Gowan, Vice President, Marketing, Looney Tunes and Cartoon Network Properties for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “From Taz’s twisting turns, to Bugs Bunny’s wise-cracking attitude, the Looney Tunes bring their own brash, ‘in-your-face’ style to this world-class,
trend-setting event.”
The event will be televised on ESPN and espn2 in the form of twelve (12) thirty minute programs covering different MSS and Taz Atti-Tour elements and will be seen in 180 countries around the world. ESPN will be filming events on May 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13.
“This event brings together all of the best aspects of youth culture in a positive and interactive forum. People not only in the community, but from all over the country, will have a chance to see the very best extreme sports athletes in the world while enjoying live music, an open skatepark, video games, the internet and other lifestyle activities,” said Rick Bratman, president of the Aggressive Skaters Association, the worldwide governing body for aggressive skating and the production company behind the MSS. “We are especially excited to have Tony Hawk supporting the MSS and our friends at Warner Bros. Consumer Products partnering with us to launch the Taz Atti-Tour. The crowds will see unbelievable aerial stunts and rail tricks from amazing athletes that will completely defy both gravity and sanity. You never know what the skaters and bikers will attempt in order to win a competition and impress their peers. We are really excited about bringing the event back to Ontario Mills for the fourth year. It has become one of the favorite venues on tour for the pros.”
Half-pipe, Coping, Hand plant, Ollie, and Royale are some lingo terms that will be referred to during the event. Also, McTwists, Flairs, Tail Whips, Kick Flips, Garfunkles, Shove-Its and Fishbrains are but a few of the difficult maneuvers these world-class athletes will be attempting.
