Turner Classic Movies And Warner Home Video To Launch Three New Classic Film Collections November 1

(July 27, 2011 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Home Video and Turner Classic Movies today announced the addition of three new classic film collections to their popular Greatest Classic Films and Greatest Classic Legends lines. Available at retail November 1, the DVD collections include: “TCM Greatest Classic Legends: Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland – ‘Girl Crazy,’ ‘Strike Up the Band,’ ‘Babes in Arms,’ ‘Babes on Broadway’”; “TCM Greatest Classic Films: Astaire and Rogers Volume Two – ‘Flying Down to Rio,’ ‘Follow the Fleet,’ ‘The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle,’ ‘Roberta’”; and “TCM Greatest Classic Films: ‘The Thin Man’ – ‘The Thin Man,’ ‘After the Thin Man,’ ‘Another Thin Man,’ ‘Shadow of the Thin Man.’” These star-powered collections feature some of Hollywood’s most legendary talents, including Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, William Powell, Myrna Loy and more. Each collection contains four classic films and is affordably priced at $27.92 SRP. Orders are due September 27. Since 2009, these collections have been made available in separate waves and promoted on-air throughout the year on TCM. To further build momentum around these titles, Warner Home Video has aligned the street dates for the collections to coincide with Turner Classic Movies programming. In this wave, “The Thin Man” collection is timed to release just before TCM’s “Star of the Month” promotion in December, featuring three-time Academy Award nominee and the star of “The Thin Man” films, William Powell. Additional promotional support for these titles will include TV programming consisting of on-air promotional spots on Turner Networks and print advertising in the “Now Playing” guide. About The Collections: “TCM Greatest Classic Legends: Mickey Rooney And Judy Garland”
Academy Award-winning child actors Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland dance and sing their way through four classic films. “Girl Crazy” (1943): With Judy makin’ “Bidin’ My Time” a cowboy hoedown, Mickey mimicking a boxing announcer in a knockout comedy bit and Tommy Dorsey providin’ “Fascinatin’ Rhythm,” this Gershwin tunefest is a swell bidin’ of everyone’s time, including a joyous Busby Berkeley-staged “I Got Rhythm” finale.
