Section Eight Television Signs Two Year Pact With Warner Bros. Television
(July 30, 2003 – Burbank, CA) - Section Eight Television has signed a two-year first-look deal with Warner Bros. Television.
Section Eight, a motion picture and television company, is headed by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney.
Grant Heslov, who has been vice president of Section Eight's film division, has been appointed president of the television division.
“Grant has an incredible talent for finding the type of properties Section Eight wants to develop and produce, and now he brings that insight to the television division," said Clooney.
Heslov said partnering with Warner Bros. Television "will enable us to work with many of the writers and directors that we have had the pleasure of working with in the film division -- George and Steven want to push the envelope and help get difficult projects on the air -- George has had a longstanding and successful relationship with Warner Bros. and I’m extremely pleased to be a part of it.”
“The opportunity to work with George Clooney, Steven Soderbergh and Grant Heslov is a no-brainer,” said Peter Roth, President, Warner Bros. Television. “Their track records in our industry clearly speak for themselves. We are looking forward with tremendous excitement to our new business venture with Section Eight Television.”
One of the first projects Section Eight Television will develop is an untitled live TV movie about famed broadcaster Edward R. Murrow. The project will be written by Jon Robin Baitz and directed by Clooney.
Clooney produced and starred in a live broadcast of "Fail Safe" for CBS in 2000.
Section Eight has one project, "K Street," that predates the Warner deal. "K Street," a series for HBO is what is known as real-time fiction. It's a show about a fictitious political consulting firm that interacts with actual people in Washington, D.C. Clooney and Soderbergh are executive producers and Heslov is co-executive producer.
Heslov joined Section Eight in 2001 as director of development before being promoted to vice president.
The projects he developed included "Jennifer Government," "The Jacket," "The Informant" and an untitled
John Dillinger project.
Heslov also was a co-producer of "Intolerable Cruelty," a feature starring Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones. It was produced, written and directed by the Coen Brothers for Universal Pictures. # # #
