Scholastic Releases Two Movie Tie-In Books In Conjunction With Warner Bros. Pictures’ New Feature Film “Racing Stripes”

(December 8, 2004 – New York, NY) - This winter, Scholastic wants kids of all ages to cheer ‘til they’re horse as two new books for beginners and middle grade readers hit bookstores to coincide with the release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ heartwarming family film “Racing Stripes,” hitting theaters on January 14, 2005. “Racing Stripes” is a feel good movie about a baby zebra who dreams of becoming a racehorse. To capture this zebra’s story in the age old tradition of the underdog coming out on top, Scholastic will publish the “Racing Stripes Novelization” (Scholastic; January 2005; $4.99; Ages 7-10) book, written by David Schmidt, and the “Scholastic Reader: Racing Stripes “book, (Scholastic; January 2005; $3.99; Ages 4-8) written by Tracey West. Both versions will allow children of all ages to relive the magic of this story. “Racing Stripes” is the tale of a baby zebra named Stripes, who is accidentally abandoned by a traveling circus during a rainstorm. The gangly little foal is discovered by horse trainer Nolan Walsh, who takes him home to live with him and his young daughter Channing on their farm, where he quickly becomes a member of a family of misfit troupe of barnyard residents. Stripes and Channing both dream of racing in the ultra-prestigious Kentucky Open – Stripes just knows that if he could get onto the track, he could leave all the other horses in the dust. What he doesn’t know is…he’s not exactly a horse. As he thrusts himself into a world of elite athletes, intense competition and enormous stakes, Stripes must prove he’s fast enough and tough enough to run with the big horses if he wants to land in the winner’s circle at the Kentucky Open. Some champions are born, not bred! Fans can find out if Stripes wins this beloved jewel of horseracing in the “Racing Stripes Novelization” (Scholastic; January 2005; $4.99; Ages 7-10) and the “Scholastic Reader: Racing Stripes!” Visit Scholastic online at www.scholastic.com Racing Stripes and all related characters and elements are trademarks of and © Warner Bros.
