Sandra Smokler Named Senior Vice President And Deputy General Counsel And Eileen Hale Named Vice President And Deputy General Counsel, Warner Bros. Pictures Theatrical Legal
(August 16, 2004 – Burbank, CA) – Sandra Smokler has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, and Eileen Hale has been promoted from Vice President and Associate General Counsel to Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Theatrical Legal Department. The announcement was made today by Pamela Kirsh, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Warner Bros. Pictures Theatrical Legal.
Smokler is responsible for managing the legal work pertaining to development and production of feature films at Warner Bros., such as “Mystic River,” as well as theatrical co-productions, such as “Gothika,” and acquisitions, such as “Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines.” In addition, Smokler supervises Warner Bros. Pictures’ legal affairs with several of the studio’s major term producers, including Silver Pictures, Clint Eastwood’s Malpaso Productions and Jerry Weintraub Productions. She reports to Kirsh.
Hale’s responsibilities also include overseeing and managing the legal work pertaining to development and production of feature film, specializing in tentpole films, including several produced outside the United States. These projects include the “Harry Potter” series as well as “Troy”, “Batman Begins,” “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride” and “Syriana”. She oversees terms deals for the Studio including those with John Wells, Soderbergh and George Clooney’s Section 8, and Chris Columbus’ 1492 Productions. Hale also reports to Kirsh.

Smokler joined Warner Bros. in 1994 as Associate General Counsel, Theatrical Legal, and was promoted to Vice President, Associate General Counsel in 1998. Prior to her affiliation with the studio, she was Vice President, Legal Affairs, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, from 1990-94. From 1987 to 1990 she served as an associate at the law firm of Stein & Kahan in Santa Monica, specializing in entertainment litigation, and from 1985-87, Smokler was an associate with O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles, where she specialized in entertainment and labor litigation. She is a graduate of the University of Miami and the University of Miami School of Law, where she was a member of the Law Review.
Hale joined Warner Bros. Pictures as Associate General Counsel in 1997 and was promoted to Vice President and Associate General Counsel in 2001. Prior to joining Warner Bros. Pictures she spent three years as Vice President, Legal Affairs, at Morgan Creek Productions. She began her law career as a corporate associate in both the New York and Los Angeles offices of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where she specialized in intellectual property law. She is an honors graduate of UCLA and Boston University School of Law, and was Executive Editor of the Law Review.
