In the AFC divisional playoffs, after falling behind early to the San Diego Chargers, Holmes again would spark the Steelers’ comeback with a long touchdown that would propel the black-and-gold to a 35-24 win. In the AFC title game, the Steelers would once again go up against the Ravens and their vaunted defense led by all-pro linebacker Ray Lewis. The pivotal play that would seal the win, however, would be made by the Steelers’ #1 ranked defense and their top playmaker, safety Troy Polamalu. Polamalu picked off Ravens rookie QB Joe Flacco and scampered in for a late touchdown that sealed the Ravens’ fate and sent the Steelers off to Super Bowl XLIII. Super Bowl XLIII would turn out to be one for the ages as the Steelers would triumph over the upstart Arizona Cardinals. Defensive player of the year James Harrison set the tone going into halftime with a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown, halting a Cardinals scoring drive. The underdog Cardinals would fight back to take the lead late in the fourth quarter.
