Open Casting Call Scheduled In Six Major Cities For The WB’s New Reality Series “Popstars”

(August 16, 2000 – Burbank, CA) — The WB's new reality series “POPSTARS” is holding open auditions in six major U.S. cities starting August 28 to find five women over 18 years old who can sing, dance and handle the pressures of instant celebrity as members of pop music’s newest girl group. The entire process will be filmed for the American debut of “POPSTARS” on The WB, going behind the scenes to follow participants every step of the way as they climb from obscurity to celebrity. Based on the highly successful Australian format, “POPSTARS” chronicles the creation of an all-female pop band — from auditions to selections, from rehearsals to the making of the music video, from recording studio to packed concert hall — every conquest and conflict on the road to stardom will be captured on film. Contestants will be judged through a rigorous audition process that will air as the series’ first three episodes. Once they make the cut, the final five band members will immediately begin working as a professional group recording their first CD and shooting a music video in preparation for their debut concert appearance. All contestants must be female and at least 18 years of age. Additional information is available at www.thewb.com. Locations and times will be announced shortly. Participants will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. “POPSTARS” follows the nationwide search to find five potential superstars among thousands of hopeful girls who possess the talent, courage and determination to risk everything in the quest to fulfill their life-long dream of becoming pop stars. The series not only documents what it takes to put together a pop vocal group, but it also explores the changes in the lives of the women and their families as they go from talented unknowns to national stars. The group is housed together, with cameras recording their rapidly changing lives. “POPSTARS” is a Stone Stanley Entertainment Production in association with The WB Television Network. The executive producers are Scott Stone and David Stanley with co-executive producers Jennifer Heftler and Lisa Page.
