New Territories Fall in Love with “The Bachelor” by Commissioning Format

(July 30, 2012 – London, England) – Hit reality series “The Bachelor” continues to be a global phenomenon, with Warner Bros. International Television Production announcing six new versions of the format to be made around the world this year, bringing the total number of territories producing the show in 2012 to 10. Due to the success of the show in the UK and Germany, both territories have commissioned a second season. Channel Five in the UK began airing 10 episodes earlier this month and RTL in Germany are set to launch a second season of eight episodes early next year. The other upcoming local versions of “The Bachelor” are:
    • France – TMC will launch a series of eight episodes in the fall
    • Chile – Chilevision will air its 1st season early next year
    • The Netherlands – SBS owned NET5 will air 9 episodes at the end of the year
    • Switzerland – 3 Plus will launch a series of eight episodes at the end of the year
Andrew Zein, SVP, Creative, Format Development and Sales WBITVP, commented: “’The Bachelor is such a hugely successful international show because, at its heart, it is a real-life fairytale of romance and love. Beautiful and entertaining – it is television for anyone in love or looking for love.” In “The Bachelor,” one lucky man is offered the chance to find true love. The series takes the Bachelor — and viewers — on the ultimate romantic journey, filled with drama and passion, in which 25 women compete to try and win his heart. Expect flirting, intense competition among the ladies and heartfelt emotion as the contestants do whatever it takes to impress the eligible Bachelor. Through a variety of group dates and intimate meetings, the Bachelor will decide which woman is right for him. About “The Bachelor”:
“The Bachelor” franchise was created by Mike Fleiss and is produced in the U.S. by Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television for the ABC Television Network. The long-running hit relationship series will air its 17th season in the U.S. early next year. Additionally, “The Bachelorette,” in which an eligible and attractive woman chooses from 25 men, recently finished its 8th season, and “Bachelor Pad,” which features former contestants of the franchise living together in one house and competing for a large sum of money — and love — premiered its 3rd season this week in the U.S. About Warner Bros. International Television Production:
Warner Bros. International Television Production (WBITVP) aims to establish or acquire production companies in the major television territories around the world in order to become a leading producer of local scripted and non-scripted programming. In those territories where WBITVP establishes a production base, it operates by developing and producing original programming and also producing local versions of formats owned and controlled by the group such as “The World’s Strictest Parents,” “Who Do You Think You Are?” and “Cowboy Builders.” Where WBITVP has no local production capability it licenses Warner Bros. formats to third parties. WBITVP has already taken significant steps by acquiring a majority stake in UK production group Shed Media, one of the UK’s largest and most successful independent production companies, which operates both in the UK and the US. Most recently it has acquired a majority stake in BlazHoffski Holding B.V., a leading independent television producer in The Netherlands and Belgium.
