MTV And Warner Bros. Combine In Unprecedented Deal To Rebroadcast “Fastlane”
(September 24, 2002 – Burbank, CA) – “Fastlane,” the new highly anticipated, high-octane action series from Warner Bros. Television, will enjoy an exclusive cable run on MTV following its weekly broadcast premiere on Fox in a unique, multifaceted deal involving MTV, Warner Bros. Television and Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution. The deal, which marks the first time that MTV has acquired a shared window with a broadcast network for a series, was announced today by Paul DeBenedittis, Senior Vice President, Programming, MTV and MTV2, and Eric Frankel, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution.
MTV will air each episode of “Fastlane” twice weekly on Sunday and Monday evenings at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT, beginning October 13. Each episode will air at least eight days following its debut on Fox (Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT). [Note: “Fastlane,” which premiered on Fox September 18, debuted to strong ratings – winning the hour in the key Adults 18-49 and 18-34 demographics and attracting an average of over 10.1 million viewers. The series will temporarily leave the schedule to allow for Fox’s coverage of post-season Major League Baseball.]
MTV will also work with Warner Bros. to promote “Fastlane” through on-air spots that will direct viewers not only to the MTV run but also back to Fox. Additionally, the music network will air a special featuring music from “Fastlane” and a “Fastlane” music video.
“When we first heard about ‘Fastlane,’ we were confident that the show would appeal to our audience,” said DeBenedittis. “This is a highly stylized movie-quality series, crafted from a director who grew up in the MTV generation and who truly understands what appeals to a younger generation of television viewers.”
“This is a win-win-win opportunity for all of the companies involved,” said Frankel. “By having this series promoted on, and accessible to, the MTV audience, we can truly offer a targeted marketing campaign aggregating the desired young demo for this series and give it the best shot for long-term success.”
McG, the hot young director of the “Charlie’s Angels” movies, and top television writer and producer John McNamara (“The Fugitive”) take television straight into the “Fastlane,” following two cops as they go undercover to take down the highest--and lowest--criminals of Los Angeles. From Warner Bros. Television, “Fastlane” stars Peter Facinelli (“The Scorpion King,” “Riding in Cars with Boys”), Bill Bellamy (“Any Given Sunday,” “The Brothers”) and Tiffani Thiessen (“Beverly Hills 90210,” “The Ladies Man”) and airs Wednesdays (9:00 - 10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on Fox. # # #
