Monday Nights Are Family Night On The WB As “Gilmore Girls” Will Now Run Twice A Week Following “7th Heaven”
(February 26, 2001 – Burbank, CA) – Monday nights will be a delight for families on The WB beginning Monday, March 5, at 9:00 p.m. ET, when the critically acclaimed freshman drama “GILMORE GIRLS” will get added sampling following the networks’ #1 rated show “7TH HEAVEN.” “GILMORE GIRLS” will continue to air Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m. ET each week. The double runs of “GILMORE GIRLS” will continue until original episodes of “ROSWELL” return to Monday nights in mid-April. The announcement was made by Jordan Levin, Co-President, Entertainment at The WB.
“We are very excited about this new strategy of airing encore episodes of the series after our highest-rated show, ‘7th Heaven,’” said Levin. “Not only are we providing the best night of family-friendly programming on television, we also think this is an excellent way to tap into the larger audience that ‘GILMORE GIRLS’ deserves.”
The encore episodes of “GILMORE GIRLS” will begin on March 5, the first Monday following February sweeps, with the series’ pilot episode, and will continue for four weeks.
Critics have championed “GILMORE GIRLS” from the beginning, and the series has already earned a Viewers for Quality Television Award for Best New Drama and a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Lauren Graham. On Thursday, February 22, “GILMORE GIRLS” continued to solidify itself as a long-term asset for The WB. Even against the two most talked-about shows on television, “Survivor” and “Friends,” the family-friendly drama achieved dramatic year-to-year growth for its time period in all 18-34 and 18-49 demos and improved across-the-board over the previous week.
“GILMORE GIRLS” was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Roseanne”) who serves as executive producer with Gavin Polone (“Stir of Echoes,” “Drop Dead Gorgeous”) for Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions and Hofflund/Polone in association with Warner Bros. Television. # # #
