Michael Harkavy Promoted To Senior Vice President Of International Content And Creative Affairs For Warner Bros. Consumer Products

(October 9, 2001 – Burbank, CA) – Michael Harkavy has been promoted to Senior Vice President of International Content and Creative Affairs for Warner Bros. Consumer Products, it was announced today by Mark Matheny, Executive Vice President, International Licensing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Reporting to Matheny, Harkavy will be responsible for working with other Warner Bros. divisions and AOL Time Warner Companies to continue to achieve the best possible media placement for Warner Bros. Consumer Product’s properties in international markets through multiple distribution outlets including: cable, satellite, digital and terrestrial television, online, wireless, interactive, traditional print publishing and Kids’ WB! Music. Additionally, he will oversee the editorial and creative direction of Warner Bros. Consumer Product’s Worldwide Publishing, Interactive and Kids' WB! Music departments. “When Michael first joined Warner Bros. Consumer Products more than eight years ago, he immediately became an integral member of our team,” said Matheny. “He is a multi-faceted executive with extensive experience in the development, creation and launch of content products for the worldwide marketplace. His excellent understanding of our companies needs and his strong business relationships – internally and externally – will help to ensure that we accomplish our goals.” Harkavy joined Warner Bros. Consumer Products in 1993 as Vice President of Worldwide Publishing. In this role, he managed all aspects of worldwide book and magazine publishing. In 1994, his duties were expanded to include oversight of Kids' WB! Music and in 1996, Interactive Entertainment was added to his title, where he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of Warner Bros.’ worldwide interactive video game business. Before joining Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Harkavy co-founded The Harkavy Publishing Service (HPS) in 1975. During the next 16 years, Harkavy built the business to include The Harkavy Press and Harkavy Information Service. In 1991, The Harkavy Publishing Service and The Harkavy Press were acquired by Uitgeverij Het Spectrum, an international publishing company based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Harkavy stayed with the company, newly named Spectrum Publishing Group, to create a strategic international vision for the establishment of new companies. He left Spectrum in 1993 to join Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Harkavy holds a Master’s Degree in French Literature from Brooklyn College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French Literature from Memphis State University. Additionally, he holds a Diplome d’Etudes Francaises from the University of Nice in France. Harkavy is also the author of “100 Best Companies to Sell For” (John Wiley, 1989), “101 Careers” (John Wiley, 1999) and editor-in-chief of “Webster’s International Encyclopedia.” He also received an RIAA Platinum Album for Children’s Audio in 1998.
