Mervyn’s And Warner Bros. Consumer Products Partner For A “Frosty” Holiday Season

(August 23, 2001 – Hayward, CA) – Mervyn’s and Warner Bros. Consumer Products announced today a partnership regarding the holiday icon “Frosty the Snowman,” created from the popular animated television special. Frosty has been the star of television specials, videos and children’s books for more than four decades, but has not been affiliated with a major retailer until now. “Frosty the Snowman” was first aired in 1969 as an animated television special, based on the book written by Ann Bedford in 1950, and has since become one of the country’s most beloved holiday characters. Frosty is one of the most watched holiday television shows aired annually on the CBS Television Network. The much-celebrated Frosty will adorn a custom line of gift, apparel and home furnishings created for the holiday 2001 season – all to be featured exclusively at Mervyn’s. The holiday program will include Frosty featured on various clothing items, watches, plush toys, tree ornaments, towels, toss pillows, and rugs. “We are extremely proud of our association with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and to be the first major retailer with a partnership for Frosty,” said Frank Castiglione, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Mervyn’s. “We are looking forward to introducing an exciting line of products specifically created for the holiday season that will make Mervyn’s the shopping destination for all things Frosty.” Previous to this Frosty agreement, Mervyn’s and Warner Bros. Consumer Products partnered together on a successful Cartoon Network promotion in March, 2001. “We are pleased to continue our rewarding relationship with Mervyn’s and are confident that Frosty will have a ‘good home’ in their stores and will spread even more holiday cheer,” said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President, Domestic Licensing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “We’re delighted Frosty will be helping to make holiday magic for thousands of families in a new way this year through our partnership with Mervyn’s,” added Gwilym McGrew, Senior Vice President, Retail Business Development for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. As the exclusive licensing agent for Warner Chappell and with permission from Golden Books, Warner Bros. Consumer Products holds the merchandising rights for “Frosty the Snowman.” Frosty product should reach Mervyn’s stores by November 1, 2001. Mervyn’s, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay area, is a promotional, casual, neighborhood department store operating 265 stores in 14 states. Known for its extensive selection of national and owned-brand fashions and housewares at exceptional prices Mervyn’s is a family favorite shopping destination. With a focus on improving the lives of children and families, Mervyn’s, together with parent company Target Corporation, annually contributes more than 1.5 million a week through grants and special programs to communities where the company does business. Warner Bros. Consumer Products is a division of Warner Bros., an AOL Time Warner Company, and is one of the leading licensing and retail merchandising organizations in the world.
