LIVINGtv Signs Major Deal With Warner Bros. International Television Distribution For Rights To Three New Series: “Justice,” “Men In Trees” And “Happy Hour”
(June 29, 2006 - Burbank, CA and London) – LIVINGtv today announced the first of its acquisitions deals from this year’s LA Screenings. After beating stiff competition from rival terrestrial and multi-channel broadcasters, the Flextech-owned entertainment channel has made a major deal for three new programs from Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITD). The announcement was made by Flextech to insert appropriate exec. name here and Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television.
LIVINGtv has picked up all UK rights to the one-hour series "Justice," from Emmy®-winning executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and "Men in Trees," from Emmy®-winning executive producer Jenny Bicks ("Sex and the City") and executive producers James Mangold and Cathy Konrad (the filmmakers behind the acclaimed movie "Walk the Line"). Additionally, LIVINGtv has secured the cable/satellite rights to the half-hour comedy "Happy Hour," from the executive producers of "That ’70s Show," Roseanne and the upcoming feature film "Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby."
Claudia Rosencrantz, Director of Programmes, LIVINGtv said, “As soon as we saw these shows we knew we had to have them. They are classy, quirky and compelling. For me, "Justice" was the standout show of the screenings.”
“This deal builds upon our excellent relationship with the Flextech family of channels, who last year stepped up to license the first runs of "Close to Home." We are pleased that these shows, which had multiple bids from the terrestrial broadcasters, have been acquired by Flextech,” said Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television. “This acquisition is both an indication of the growth of the cable and satellite channels in the UK and the growing importance of U.S. series on all broadcasters’ schedules.”
The pact was negotiated by Louise Benham, Managing Editor, LIVINGtv, and Chris Law, Managing Director, UK Television, WBITD.
Starring Victor Garber ("Alias"), Eamonn Walker ("ER," "Oz," "Othello"), Kerr Smith ("Dawson’s Creek") and Rebecca Mader ("Conviction," "The Devil Wears Prada"), "Justice" is an unflinching, behind-the-scenes look at the way high-profile cases are tried in the media age. Using innovative visual devices and fast-paced storytelling, the one-hour drama follows the country’s top legal minds at a high-tech boutique Los Angeles law firm, led by charismatic Ron Trott (Garber), whose ego is only exceeded by his ability to manipulate juries and public opinion—and by his drive to win. "Justice" airs on U.S. network FOX in a primetime slot this autumn and will sit alongside LIVINGtv’s other hugely successful crime dramas, the ratings winners "Close to Home," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Criminal Minds." The series is from Jerry Bruckheimer Television in association with Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers are Jerry Bruckheimer (the "CSI" franchise, "Without a Trace"), Jonathan Littman ("Without a Trace," "Cold Case"), David McNally ("Coyote Ugly") and Jonathan Shapiro ("The Practice," "Boston Legal").
"Men in Trees" is the lighthearted new one-hour dramedy, starring Anne Heche ("Everwood," "Nip/Tuck"), about finding love in the most unexpected of places. Relationship expert and best-selling author Marin Frist (Heche) seems to have her own relationships under control—including her upcoming wedding to her “perfect man.” But en route to a speaking engagement in Alaska she learns that her fiancé has cheated on her, and the wedding plans are instantly over.
Confronted with the cold reality of her situation—and of her awe-inspiring natural surroundings in remote Elmo, Alaska—Marin cancels her upcoming appearance on "Oprah" when she realizes that there may actually be a more pressing need for her up north, especially considering she’s now a major commodity, thanks to the 10-to-1 ratio of men to women. "Men in Trees" will air in primetime on U.S. network ABC in autumn 2006. The executive producers are Emmy® winner Jenny Bicks ("Sex and the City"), James Mangold ("Walk the Line," "Identity") and Cathy Konrad ("Walk the Line," "Scream"). The series is from Tree Line Film, Perkins Street Productions, NS Pictures, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.
In "Happy Hour," good-natured Henry Beckman (John Sloan – Commander in Chief, The Triangle) thought he had it made when he followed his girlfriend from Missouri to Chicago, moved in with her and started working for her uncle, but when she wants to spread her wings and breaks up with him, he loses his relationship, apartment and job, all in a matter of minutes. With nowhere else to turn, he moves into the much more lively upstairs residence of a supremely confident rogue with impeccable style and some very strong opinions (Lex Medlin – Still Standing) and quickly learns that the bad times are over, and the good times are about to roll in "Happy Hour." Flextech-owned youth entertainment channel Trouble will take a second window of the show. The executive producers of the series are Jackie Filgo ("That ’70s Show") & Jeff Filgo ("That ’70s Show"), Tom Werner ("Roseanne," "The Cosby Show"), Eric Gold (the forthcoming feature film "Outsourced") and Jimmy Miller (the forthcoming feature film "Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby").
