Judge Greg Mathis Throws Out First Pitch At Detroit Tigers Game On Monday, June 3

(May 31, 2002 – New York, NY) - Judge Greg Mathis is throwing out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers versus Boston Red Sox baseball game at Comerica Park on Monday, June 3 at 7:05 pm. The first pitch and the game air on UPN 50. As a young man, Greg Mathis was involved with gangs, dropped out of school, spent time in jail and then, as a promise to his dying mother, turned his life around. He attended college, earned a law degree, became the youngest judge in Michigan’s history and then served as a Superior Court Judge for Michigan’s 36th District. Known for running his courtroom with a no-nonsense style and streetwise sensibility, Mathis often uses himself as an example to those who appear before him. Judge Greg Mathis is a unique role model, which makes him stand out from other court show judges. The continued success of his show has led to the growth of a new generation of younger court viewers, with “Judge Mathis” consistently ranking as the youngest skewing court show on television. Mathis grew up in the housing projects of Detroit, and as a teenager was well on his way to a life of crime. But, as a promise to his dying mother, he vowed to change his ways. At age 18, he turned his life around - earning his GED (high school equivalency), continuing on to college and earning a jurist doctorate degree. Despite tremendous obstacles and odds, Mathis became the youngest judge in Michigan’s history and was elected a Superior Court Judge for Michigan’s 36th District. “Judge Mathis” is produced by And Syndicated Productions and Telepictures Productions in association with Black Pearl Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
