Jim Noonan Named Senior Vice President & General Manager, Warner Bros. Online
(June 12, 2001 - Burbank, CA) - Respected music and television executive Jim Noonan has been named to the newly created position of Senior Vice President & General Manager, Warner Bros. Online, it was announced today by Kevin Tsujihara, Executive Vice President, New Media, Warner Bros.
Noonan will oversee the day-to-day operations of Warner Bros. Online and its Web site, www.warnerbros.com, including production, sales, marketing, legal and business affairs, technology, and original programming. His responsibilities also include creating, developing and implementing online promotional activities across Warner Bros.’ various divisions, as well as with such AOL Time Warner platforms as America Online and Netscape. Noonan takes over management of Warner Bros. Online from Tsujihara, who will continue to have corporate oversight of the division along with his general corporate responsibilities for all of Warner Bros.’ new media initiatives and activities.
“In addition to the broad-based knowledge, management skills and invaluable contacts from his years at Warner Music, HBO and CBS News, Jim has proven creative vision, diverse experience and an incredible passion for this medium and for this job,” said Tsujihara. “Appointing a general manager of Jim’s stature is a clear indication of the company’s commitment to online, both as a promotional and marketing vehicle and a research and development lab for original programming.”
“This is a extraordinary opportunity to explore and exploit the vast resources available to Warner Bros. Online through its corporate lineage and its relationships in the creative and online communities,” said Noonan. “Kevin has assembled a terrific team and they have done a phenomenal job in facing the often intense online business climate. I look forward to working with the Warner Bros. Online staff and my colleagues at Warner Bros. and AOL Time Warner to take both the division and site to the next level.”
Noonan joins Warner Bros. Online from Warner Music Group, where he had served as Senior Vice President, Strategic Promotions, for the past year, with a focus on developing WMG’s cross-divisional promotions and strategic alliances. During the five years prior, he was Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Warner Music Group. In this post, he identified and created a number of non-traditional promotional outlets for WMG’s artists, including the HBO live music series “Reverb,” which he developed and executive produced (the program debuted in 1996 and became the highest rated regularly scheduled music program on television). In 1998, Noonan, partnering with The WB, created a cross-promotional strategy for WMG artists featured on the network's shows which yielded significant sales increases for the artists showcased, and has since been adopted by the entire music industry.
Prior to joining WMG, Noonan served for seven years as Vice President, Corporate Affairs for HBO, where he was responsible for overseeing all corporate affairs activities with print and electronic media, public policy issues and corporate relationships with HBO's various public constituencies. He joined HBO in 1986 as Director, Corporate Affairs. Before HBO, Noonan worked as Deputy Director of Communications for CBS News in New York and as a Senior Account Executive for the New York public relations firm Scanlon and Menken. # # #
