Fox Television Stations Expands Partnership with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution with Acquisition of “Extra”
(December 17, 2018 – New York and Burbank) – “Extra,” the Emmy award-winning syndicated entertainment news magazine, has been acquired by the FOX Television Stations (FTS) in seven major markets, beginning in the Fall of 2019. This acquisition, which is the latest in a string of successful programming collaborations between Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and the FOX Television Stations, was announced today by Frank Cicha, Senior Vice President, Programming, FTS, and Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
In making the announcement, Cicha stated, “This deal is a win-win for two companies with a strong history together. ‘Extra’ fits right into our day and date strategy and the stations will be ready to ensure its continued success. While it’s targeted primarily for big time periods, it can run all over the place and we’ll take advantage of that. And, there will be great opportunities to work with our news departments as well.”
Added Werner, “We at Warner Bros. are thrilled to continue to expand our programing partnership with the FOX Stations. They are at the forefront of successfully meeting the challenges of the television environment by creating destinations in their local communities for live compelling programming. ‘Extra’ is the perfect franchise to add to their line-up bringing a unique angle on the events of the day in the entertainment industry.”
Cleared in 93% of the country for Fall 2019, “Extra” will join the FTS line-ups in major markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Orlando and Charlotte. The series is already airing on FOX O&O’s in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Detroit. As of Fall 2019, the series will air on 10 FOX-owned stations.
