Derek Powell Promoted To Senior Vice President And General Manager, Warner Bros. Entertainment’s Global Digital Media Xchange
(April 20, 2009 – Burbank, CA) – Derek Powell has been promoted to Senior Vice President and General Manager, Global Digital Media Xchange (GDMX), it was announced today by Darcy Antonellis, President, Warner Bros. Technical Operations.
Powell will succeed Paul Saccone, who has announced his intention to retire later this year. Saccone has served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of GDMX for the past 10 years and will remain with GDMX during Powell’s transition.
As Senior Vice President and General Manager, Powell will oversee GDMX, Warner Bros. Entertainment’s 100,000-square foot production facility specializing in digital video compression, DVD authoring and digital content distribution services – including broadcast, DVD, VOD and vault operations across all product categories (new release, catalog and special interest). Specifically, he will be charged with developing and implementing key operating strategies, maximizing the market potential of content distribution services, optimizing processes and workflows, and developing strategic technology partnerships.

Prior to his current post, Powell served as Vice President, Worldwide Supply Chain Management & DVD Production, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group. Before that he was Vice President of Asia Pacific & Latin America’s regional operations, for which he relocated to Tokyo to oversee day-to-day supply chain operations across nine affiliate countries and eight licensee markets. Powell has also served as Director, Supply Chain Management.
Before joining Warner Bros., Powell worked for Riverone, Inc. (now i2 Technologies) as Director of Supply Chain Strategy. He has also served as Supply Chain Operations Practice Consultant for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).
Powell holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine’s Paul Merage Graduate School of Management and a B.S. in Astronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy.
