(March 10, 2010 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Home Video (WHV) celebrates the most enduring team in animation history, Tom and Jerry, with the release of “Tom and Jerry: Deluxe Anniversary Collection,” available in stores June 29, 2010. This must-have compilation features 30 of the best and most popular shorts showcasing Tom and Jerry’s appearances through the decades. The two-disc set which will also include bonus material (over three-hours of content) will retail for $26.99 SRP. Order due date is May 25, 2010.
Consumers will clamor for this all-new Tom and Jerry collection that features an eclectic line up of shorts covering each decade since the duo’s creation. The set begins with the short that started it all, the Oscar® nominated “Puss Gets the Boot,” not only catapulted the then-unnamed Tom and Jerry to meteoric stardom but also served as the launching pad for the collaborative efforts of another gifted legendary duo, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
“Tom and Jerry: Deluxe Anniversary Collection” features seven shorts that became Oscar® winners for Best Short Subject, Cartoons. They include “Yankee Doodle Mouse,” “Mouse Trouble,” “Quiet Please!,” “The Cat Concerto,” “The Little Orphan,” “Johann Mouse” and “Two Mousketeers.”
Also included on the DVD is an excerpt from the 1945 live action film “Anchors Aweigh,” in which Jerry performs a dance routine with Gene Kelly. Another featured excerpt is from the 1953 musical film “Dangerous When Wet,” in which Tom and Jerry appear with Esther Williams in a dream sequence where they perform a synchronized swimming routine.
“Our goal was to create a comprehensive collection that shows the evolution of the two characters through the course of several decades,” said Amit Desai WHV Vice President of Family, Animation and Partner Brands Marketing. He added, “No matter how much they’ve grown over the years or how many great directors have left their distinctive mark on them, Tom and Jerry remain just as fast, mischievous and fun as ever. We think this anniversary collection will be a big hit with consumers.”
“Tom and Jerry: Deluxe Anniversary Collection” is intended for the adult collector and may not be suitable for children.
