“TMZ” Renewed For Three Years Through 2014
(January 4, 2011 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution has renewed Telepictures Productions’ entertainment news brand “TMZ” through the 2013-2014 season on Fox Television Stations, and on stations covering over 75% of the country, it was announced today by Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. The extension includes all of the owned-and-operated Fox affiliates, such as WNYW-TV (New York), KTTV-TV (Los Angeles) and WFLD-TV (Chicago), bringing “TMZ” to seventh season.
“TMZ” has consistently been recognized as changing the way entertainment news is reported and covered and reinventing the entertainment magazine genre. “TMZ” is the first cross-platform, three screen success for a media company and stands out as the most cited entertainment news source in the world. Launched in 2005, “TMZ’s” meteoric rise followed its exclusive on two of the biggest stories in entertainment: Mel Gibson’s DUI arrest and subsequent encounter with law enforcement, and Michael Richards’ ill-fated trip to the Laugh Factory. “TMZ’s” groundbreaking coverage, including being the first organization to report the death of Michael Jackson, reinforced the preeminence of the brand as a leader and relied upon source.
“TMZ” debuted in September 2007 with Fox serving as the primary station launch group and went on to become the highest-rated new first-run strip of the 2007–2008 season among Households and all key Women and Adult demographics. Season to date, the series currently ranks number one among all syndicated magazines among Adults 18-34 and is the second highest rated magazine among Adults 18-49 and 25-54. Originating from the heart of Hollywood on the famed Sunset Strip, “TMZ” brings the TMZ.com brand to television, expanding on the Web site’s mission as a 24-hour-per-day, seven-day-per-week entertainment news destination that goes where stars work, live and play to take viewers on a trip through a world where the reality is even more fascinating than the hype. Produced by Harvey Levin Productions, Inc. and paraMedia, inc. in association with Telepictures Productions, the series is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. Harvey Levin and Jim Paratore are the program’s executive producers.
“TMZ” also reaches beyond the world of entertainment to break stories in other genres like politics and sports. “TMZ” attributes its growth to multi-platform breaking news coverage and original reporting on entertainment events such as Tiger Woods’ scandal. “TMZ” was recently named as an Official Honoree for the News Category in the 14th Annual Webby Awards. In April 2010, “TMZ” launched TooFab.com, the destination for all things fabulous. TooFab.com is already a favorite destination for celebrity fashion and news with 2.2 million unique users in November 2010 according to comScore.
TMZ.com announced the availability of its free “TMZ” application for iPhone, iPad and Android devices last year. The ad-supported “TMZ” Mobile App includes all the most popular sections of TMZ.com and provides a cutting-edge mobile video experience. “TMZ” continues to rank #1 for Mobile Celebrity News (both Mobile Web and Apps combined) with over 4.4 million unique users, and has held this spot consecutively for the past 23 months. “TMZ” is currently ranked #5 of all Mobile Entertainment Brands (according to Nielsen).
