“Scooby-Doo In Stagefright – Live On Stage!”
(November 6, 2002 – Burbank, CA) – Building on the momentum of the highly successful 2001-2002 tour of “SCOOBY-DOO IN STAGEFRIGHT – Live on Stage!” and this summer’s blockbuster movie hit, “Scooby-Doo,” Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Clear Channel Entertainment announce the second leg of the national touring live stage production of Warner Bros. Family Entertainment presents “SCOOBY-DOO IN STAGEFRIGHT – Live On Stage!” Featuring everyone’s favorite characters from one of TV’s longest-running animated series, the chicken-hearted Great Dane, Scooby-Doo and his mystery-solving gang team-up to thrill theater-goers across the country when the national tour kicks-off on January 24th at the Auditorium Theatre in Rochester, NY.
Giving Scooby-Doo fans of all ages a chance to see the cast of sleuths and their comical brand of detective work on stage, the live show is scheduled to perform in approximately 45 cities throughout the United States and Canada, including a run in Los Angeles at the new Kodak Theatre complex located in the heart of historic Hollywood. Return engagements include: Wallingford, Boston, Columbus, Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Detroit, Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa.
“We are very pleased with the success and popularity of the 2001-2002 tour and are looking forward to another exciting run in 2003,” said Karine Joret, Sr. Vice-President, Worldwide Public Relations and Live Events, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “We are thrilled to be bringing Scooby-Doo and the gang to theatres across the nation to thrill audiences of all ages.”
"The stage production has many classic elements of the original 60's TV show, so parents, who grew up with Scooby-Doo, love the show as much as their kids," says Joanna Hagan, Senior Vice President, Clear Channel Theatrical Production - Family Entertainment. "This show has something for everyone."
In this exciting production, the beloved Hanna-Barbera characters -- Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred -- will take to the stage to solve a classic Scooby-Doo style mystery. The show takes the form of a “long lost episode” in which Scooby-Doo and friends solve the mystery of a supernatural specter wreaking havoc at the old Clawhammer movie studio. The gang faces one hilarious situation after another as they hunt for clues on the set of a monster movie directed by Daphne’s totally hip uncle. With crazy creatures, perplexing puzzles, and an abundance of Scooby Snacks, it’s Scooby-Doo and friends at their best, solving cases and traveling the country in their Mystery Machine.
Promising hilarious hi-jinks, groovy music and magical special effects never-before-seen in a family theatrical presentation, this stage production is written and directed by Jim Millan, founder of Toronto's Crow's Theatre. Millan has produced and directed more than 35 original works and numerous tours in Canada, the United States and abroad, including the recent “Kids in the Hall Tour 2002.”
“I’ve been a huge fan of the TV series since I was a kid and to have the chance to turn Scooby-Doo into a stage production has been great fun,” says Jim Millan, director/author of “SCOOBY-DOO IN STAGEFRIGHT – Live on Stage!” “The theater is full of magic, and the Scooby-Doo mysteries are a perfect fit onstage.”
The production’s creative team includes: Mark McKinney, script consultant and “Kids in the Hall” star; set designer Robert Bissinger, (“You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” “Jackie: An American Life,” “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella”); costume designer Gregg Barnes (“Flower Drum Song,” “The Wizard of Oz”); sound designer Peter Hylenski (“The Music Man,” “Ragtime”); and lighting designer Paul D. Miller (“Sound of Music,” “A Midsummer Night's Dream”).
