“The Larry Elder Show” Bought By Viacom Television Stations And Declared A “Firm Go” For Fall 2004

(January 28, 2004 - Burbank, CA) - “The Larry Elder Show,” a brand-new one-hour daily multi-topic talk strip, has been acquired by the Viacom Television Stations Group for a fall 2004 launch, it was announced today by Dennis Swanson, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Viacom Television Stations Group and Dick Robertson, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, and Jim Paratore, President, Telepictures Productions and Executive Vice President, Warner Bros. Television Distribution, who declared the series is a “firm go” for September 2004. “The Larry Elder Show” is a daily, hour-long, multi-topic daytime talk show that will focus on relatable topics in a responsible, compelling manner. Hosted by best-selling author, radio personality and experienced television host Larry Elder, the series will focus on bringing common sense, sound advice and realistic, workable solutions back to daytime talk. Showcasing Elder's unique style, unquestioned intelligence and quick wit, the series will inform, entertain and enlighten viewers. Elder hosted Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s “Moral Court” during the 2000 - 01 television season. Stations canceled the series, which was handicapped by tough time periods, after its first sweep period in November 2000. Despite that and without any promotion, the series showed strong growth the following February and further growth in May. Remarkably, the series is currently in its third rerun cycle on WCIU-TV (Chicago), where in November 2003 it averaged a 4.0/12 household rating at 2 p.m., tied for number-one with perennial powerhouse WLS-TV. “In talk it’s all about the host and Larry Elder has proven that he is the kind of intelligent, experienced television host who knows how to connect with viewers,” said Swanson. “Larry has real cross-over appeal and that’s why we believe he can work on either our CBS or UPN stations.” “Dr. Phil and Ellen have demonstrated quite clearly that viewers, as well as advertisers, want quality, responsible shows in daytime,” said Robertson. “In ‘The Larry Elder Show’ we have a responsible and advertiser-friendly, high-CPM talk show that we believe can make a positive impact and continue to bring quality content back to broadcast syndication.” “There is still a need for another show in the syndication marketplace for this fall,” said Paratore. “‘The Larry Elder Show’ is exactly what stations are looking for. This series offers both a proven format and an experienced host that has succeeded in some of the toughest time slots in syndication.” The Viacom Television Stations Group has licensed the show to air on their duopoly stations Los Angeles (KCBS-Channel 2/KCAL-Channel 9), Philadelphia (KYW-Channel 3/WPSG-Channel 57), San Francisco (KPIX-Channel 5/KBHK-Channel 44), Boston (WBZ-Channel 2/WSBK-Channel 38), Dallas (KTVT-Channel 4/KTXA-Channel 21), Detroit (WWJ-Channel 62/WKBD-Channel 50), Miami (WFOR-Channel 4/WBFS-Channel 33) and Pittsburgh (KDKA-Channel 2/WNPA-Channel 19), their CBS station in Chicago (WBBM-Channel 2) and their UPN stations in Atlanta (WUPA-Channel 69), Norfolk (WGNT-Channel 27) and New Orleans (WUPL-Channel 54).
