“The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms,” “The Black Scorpion” And “The Valley Of Gwangi” DVDs From Warner Home Video
(August 13, 2003 – Burbank, CA) – “The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms,” “The Black Scorpion” and “The Valley of Gwangi” -- three monster classics featuring special effects master Willis O'Brien (“The Lost World,” “King Kong” & “Mighty Joe Young”) and his successor Ray Harryhausen (“Mighty Joe Young,” “Jason and the Argonauts” & “Clash of the Titans”) -- will debut on DVD On October 21 from Warner Home Video (WHV). Each title will be available on DVD for $19.98 SRP.
Though special effects techniques today have been dramatically transformed by CGI, the stunningly imaginative and detailed work of these three classic films still amazes audiences today. Willis pioneered the stop-motion animation technique that makes small, well-articulated models come to life by photographing them one frame at a time and then moving them slightly between exposures. Harryhausen, inspired by Willis’ “King Kong” when he saw it as a teenager, began creating special effects in his backyard that same summer and went on to creative feats that rivaled his mentor’s.
