Brother Rat and a Baby

Original Theatrical Date: January 13, 1940

The screwball follow-up to Brother Rat finds “Bing” Edwards (Eddie Albert) two years after graduating from Virginia Military Institute and up for a head coach position at his old alma mater against a fellow alum. On his way to New York to interview for the job, Bing is separated from his family after Commencement—the “Baby” in the title—swallows a diamond ring.

Wayne Morris as Billy Randolph and Ronald Reagan as Dan Crawford add to the fun as old pal Billy entangles the trio in all sorts of chicanery surrounding the “returned” ring, an unpaid C.O.D. package, a priceless Stradivarius violin, fake telegrams and an uncle’s beloved model ship...all of which culminate with Commencement alone on a plane bound for Peru.

Returning for the fun with the “Brother Rats” are the cadet’s longtime sweethearts from the first film: Jane Bryan, Priscilla Lane and Jane Wyman.

Genre: Comedy
