Riding with Clint Eastwood

There aren’t many true Hollywood legends still making films today and you’d be hard-pressed to find a more successful or longer lasting studio/filmmaker relationship than the one that has existed between Warner Bros. and Clint Eastwood for nearly 50 years. While so many of his compatriots have either retired or moved on to that big screen in the sky, the 87-year-old Eastwood continues churning out films at a pace far quicker than those half his age. And more than 60 years after his first uncredited acting role in 1955’s Revenge of the Creature, the two-time Oscar winning director (Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, for which he also won “Best Picture” Oscar as the producer) is still creating box-office hits.

Having given up acting a few years ago, Eastwood has helmed a series of movies based on true stories that have been epic in both scope and success, including 2014’s global blockbuster American Sniper (the most financially successful film of his illustrious career) and 2016’s hit Sully about the Miracle on the Hudson plane landing. And this Friday sees the release of The 15:17 to Paris, another true story based on the 2015 events in which three vacationing Americans thwarted a terrorist attack aboard a train in France.

Always one to follow his instincts, after going through casting calls for the three leads, Eastwood decided to have the three American heroes—Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos—portray themselves; a bold move that brings an even more raw authenticity to an already powerful story.
