Remembering Full House Fridays
You may have heard that a certain family-favorite show from the 1980's–90's was given new life as a Netflix sitcom last year. When word got out that Full House would be back as Fuller House and most of the original cast was on board to reprise their original characters, fans, many of whom were still nostalgic for the days of "TGIF TV," embraced this new grown-up version of their beloved childhood series with open arms. Even with a reversal of roles—Fuller House now sees D.J. as a widow with three sons who relies on the help and support of her sister Stephanie and best friend Kimmy—the series remained true to its original formula. And now just in time for the holidays, Season Two shenanigans will be streaming on screens everywhere beginning December 9. And before the Netflix bingeing begins, why not take a trip back to where it all started?
Season 1
Long-haired and fresh-faced at the beginning of the series: John Stamos as Jesse Katsopolis, Dave Coulier as Joey Gladstone, Bob Saget as Daniel 'Danny" Tanner with Mary-Kate/Ashley Olsen, as Michelle Elizabeth Tanner, Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Judith Tanner and Candace Cameron (now Candace Cameron Bure) as Donna Joe "D.J." Tanner.
In the first season, Stamos' character was named Jesse Cochran. At the actor's request, he was re-named Jesse Katsopolis at the beginning of the second season to reflect the Stamos' own Greek heritage.
Season 2
Famous for his silly voices and impressions, Joey (Dave Coulier) suited up as Popeye in this 1989 Valentine's Day themed episode, "Little Shop of Sweaters."
Kimmy Gibbler (right) was a recurring character in the first four seasons and would be made a cast regular in the fifth. Andrea Barber, who played the outgoing Kimmy, returns to Fuller House once again as D.J.'s bestie.
Season 3
Driving "Rosie" through the wall of the Tanner kitchen was definitely one of Stephanie's bigger disasters.
Junior high is rough. Kimmy and D.J. experiment with their look in order to fit in at their new school. (It'll take a little practice.)
Season 4
In the episode "Crimes and Michelle's Demeanor," Michelle has become a mischievous, trouble-making toddler. In the scene above she has Jesse, Danny and Joey eating out of her hand as they sing her a lullaby to go to sleep.
In just four short years the girls had already grown up considerably compared to the cast photo from the debut season.
In the 1991 episode "The Wedding, Part 2," Jesse and Becky (Lori Loughlin) tie the knot—but not after a series of ever worsening events on the big day.
Season 5
A bedroom sit-down with Dad became a mainstay of the series.
Becky and Jesse make the full house even fuller by becoming parents to twin boys Nicky and Alex.
Season 6
After multiple set-backs, Jesse returns to school to earn his high school diploma in "Educating Jesse."
Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit played the Katsopolis twins during the last three seasons.
Season 7
An expanded cast in 1993, included Becky and Jesse's twin boys and D.J.'s boyfriend Steve (Steve Weinger, far right).
Full publicity shot of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as Michelle Tanner.
Season 8
Comet the Golden Retriever was introduced in the third season and remained with the Tanners throughout the run of the series. Comet, whose real name was Buddy, also starred in Air Bud.
During D.J. and Steve's brief breakup, D.J. began dating bad boy Viper (David Lipper).
If you need a little holiday cheer this year, be sure to re-watch "Arrest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with special guest star Mickey Rooney.
See you December 9 when the second season of Fuller House makes its Netflix debut! We'll be there with bells on!
