"Blade Runner" Sequel Announced
A sequel to the classic 1982 sci-fi thriller Blade Runner has been announced by Alcon Entertainment with Warner Bros. handling the U.S. distribution. The as-yet-titled film is slated for a January 12, 2018 release with Ryan Gosling, who stars first with Russell Crowe in the action comedy The Nice Guys this May 20. Along with Gosling, Harrison Ford (pictured above in Blade Runner) will be once again reprising a role from his iconic past—as Rick Deckard—as he recently did as Hans Solo in the latest Star Wars release.
Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario) will be directing with original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott executive producing. Oscar nominated Roger Deakins, who worked with Villeneuve on both Prisoners and Sicario, is handling cinematography. Blade Runner co-writer Hampton Fancher penned the sequel with Michael Green, based on a story by Fancher and Scott. Look for filming of the sequel to begin this summer.
Not a major box-office hit at the time of its release in 1982, Blade Runner quickly became a cult favorite and is now considered a sci-fi classic. To get those juices flowing again, revitalize yourself with a look at the original Blade Runner trailer.
