Plus Drink Recipies and More

how to be single may 3 on digital hd and may 24 on bluray

(UPDATED MAY 2) With the impending Digital HD and Blu-ray/DVD releases of the hilarious comedy, How to Be Single, we thought we'd bring back this article we first published at the time of the theatrical release, just in case you may have missed it the first time around or want to hear from the ladies again (and mix up a few cocktails for your home viewing!)

(The following article was originally published February 1)
Just in time for Valentine's Day, four women will be celebrating the single life in the new comedy, How to Be Single. Recently the actresses playing those four ladies—Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Alison Brie and Leslie Mann—met with the press to discuss their celluloid characters and what makes this R-rated rom-com so special. We've also compiled some fun How to Be Single activities for you below and always remember: True friends are there for the times you'll never forget, and the times you'll never remember.

REBEL WILSON (Robin)

"The thing I like about my character is that she’s kind of like eternally single, which is like me in real life unfortunately [laughs]. I haven’t met the right person yet, so I really related to that. And with How to Be Single, you get different perspectives because of the four different main girls and it’s also more of a modern perspective because the motto is: “You can be single and it’s totally fine, and you don’t have to be with a guy at the end of the film,” which I think is a really good message and not the message found in most romantic comedies."

DAKOTA JOHNSON (Alice)

"The moments where you see Alice being so frustrated with herself is something I can definitely relate to. The thing that I appreciated is that it’s a depiction of a girl who has been really dependent on a lot of people her whole life to make her feel better or to hold her hand and guide her through certain situations that are scary or difficult, and never needing to step up and do something herself. There’s something to be said about how society has sort of put pressure on women to ‘couple-up’ with someone for the rest of their lives. I think that women should be traveling and learning and doing everything they want to do instead of searching for a man."

ALISON BRIE (Lucy)

"I’m really enjoying being engaged, I’m super happy and excited, and I’m glad to be done with dating. Although I had a really great time when I was single, maybe too great a time [laughs], but I also had some really dark and lonely moments so I’m glad to see those moments go. But one of the things to take away from the time when I was single was having a really great support unit of friends and family who are there for you when you’re single. This movie is really great at pointing out those friendships and familial relationships, and also how to take care of yourself."

leslie mann as meg in How to Be Single

LESLIE MANN (Meg)

"I’m raising two girls right now and I’m excited that they get to grow up in the world we have today as opposed to the world when I was younger or when my mother was. We went to a screening recently and when we walked out of the movie, there was a woman who was working at the movie theater and I think she was around 40, and she said, “I’m so excited. Now I feel like it’s okay to be single.” Obviously it’s okay, but we’ve just been brainwashed to believe that we have to get married, have kids, and do things a certain way."
