Sylvester Stallone Wins the Globe

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) kicked off "awards season" last night by celebrating the 73rd Golden Globes Awards in Los Angeles last night. The awards, which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, recognize achievement in both film and television—so red carpet watching is always double the fun.

Sylvester Stallone won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Creed. This was his first Globe win and only third nomination. He was last nominated in 1976 for Best Screenplay and Best Actor for the original Rocky film.

Stallone's portrayal as aging ex-boxer Rocky Balboa from the Rocky series certainly struck a chord with the HFPA and his fellow actors as he received a standing ovation when his win was announced. During his heartfelt acceptance speech on stage, Stallone went on to say:

I'm going to try to not get emotional, because I am the sum total of everyone I've ever met and I'm lucky to absorb it all.

Backstage, an elated Stallone thanked the HFPA while showing off his newest trophy.

You can still catch Creed in theaters to see Stallone's powerful performance for yourself, which Variety praised as saying, "deepen[s] a character we've grown to love over the last 40 years, as well as present[ing] him in a whole new shade."
