Vertigo Continues Weekly Debuts
Vertigo Comics, the horror/fantasy imprint of DC Comics, continues its aggressive fourth quarter weekly release schedule of new titles with this Wednesday’s debut of Slash & Burn. We've gathered together the dozen new #1 titles released since October, and those still to come as 2015 winds down.

Released October 7

Find out in Survivors’ Club, a new series co-written by renowned horror novelist Lauren Beukes and award-winning cover designer and illustrator Dale Halverson, with art by Ryan Kelly.

When a white orb washes up on the shore of a remote Latin American village, a group of children naturally poke at the strange object to see what it is. The orb explodes, leaving the children completely blind. And when a beautiful young woman who may be an alien is found wandering the seafront, she’s taken in by the townspeople, but soon becomes a person of interest to a quirky pair of undercover CIA agents.

It’s the start of the first Vertigo series from fan-favorite writer Gail Simone, with 2000AD artist Jon Davis-Hunt! Astrid Mueller is the enigmatic and compelling guru of a giant self-help organization—a devastatingly powerful figure in the industry between psychology and religion. Journalist Chloe Pierce’s fiancé decided to pick up Astrid’s book, and within three months he was dead. Now Chloe is on a mission to find out who Astrid Mueller really is.

In this new series by Shaun Simon, co-writer (with Gerard Way) of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and legendary artist Michael Allred (iZOMBIE), art not only imitates life, it becomes it! When rogue figures from famous works of art come to life and escape their frames, it’s up to Reggie Riot and the agents of Art Operatives to track them down before they wreak havoc on the unsuspecting public.

A dying social media mogul leaves his billions to be split evenly between 140 random people—or however many of them are still alive at the moment of his death. Rob Williams (Martian Manhunter, The Royals: Masters of War) and Michael Dowling (Death Sentence) assemble a cast that includes a young black man, an Iranian reporter, a retired special forces soldier, and a thrill-seeking heiress, in this thriller that shows we’re all still part of the food chain.

Another day, another hot date. Firefighter Rosheen Hayes takes her relationships with conflagration seriously. This new ongoing series from writer Si Spencer has all the mystery and intrigue of his hit Vertigo miniseries Bodies, with art by Max Dunbar (Dungeons & Dragons) and veteran inker Ande Parks (The Irredeemable Ant-Man), Slash & Burn is a tricky thriller that explores both the excitement and the consequences of succumbing to one’s darkest impulses.

On the rain-soaked streets of Glasgow, a girl whose drawings somehow come to life has just stumbled across her one true love. And thousands of miles below those streets, an ancient demi-god plots his escape from the prison where he’s been held for nearly two thousand years. Evil forces are at play and no one is safe as the legends of Scottish mythology collide with the modern world. Fans of Fables and The Sandman won’t want to miss this riveting dark fantasy epic!

Eric Kripke (creator of TV's Supernatural) teams up with Vertigo veterans John Higgins (Hellblazer) and Glenn Fabry (Preacher) to bring you a very Vertigo take on the modern superhero in this six-issue miniseries. Josh Jaffe, a neurotic family man mid-midlife crisis, buys an online “smart pill” to increase his focus and jolt him out of his slump. But to Josh’s surprise, the pill gives him incredible strength and power—but its cost is that it’s extremely addictive.

The Sheriff of Babylon (originally titled The Sheriff of Baghdad) is a new eight-issue miniseries pulled from Grayson co-writer Tom King’s real-life experience as a CIA operations officer and is illustrated by Mitch Gerads, co-creator of The Activity. Baghdad, 2003. Florida Police officer-turned-military contractor, Chris Henry is tasked with training a new Iraqi police force. When one of his trainees ends up dead, Chris is forced to team up with Nassir, the last remaining cop in Baghdad.

Fired from a cushy job in Silicon Valley, Lexy becomes a coder for New Romancer, an Internet-dating app that’s seen better days. To create fake profiles, she plunders characteristics from history’s most notorious lovers. Online dating meets courtly love in this paranormal rom-com by Vertigo veteran writer Peter Milligan and rising art-star Brett Parson (Tank Girl).
Debuts December 16
The anti-hero who made his debut in The Sandman and starred in his own hit series is back in a new series by best-selling writer Holly Black (The Spiderwick Chronicles) and artist Lee Garbett (Loki). As this series begins, God is dead—and Gabriel has accused Lucifer of His murder. Lucifer had motive and opportunity, but claims he can prove his innocence.
Debuts December 23
This new series from Simon Oliver (FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics) and Rufus Dayglo (Tank Girl), spans three decades, from the punk rock ’70s to the decadent ’80s and beyond, charting the rise, fall and redemption of a group of bandits that changed the face of the criminal underworld and closed the door on a legacy.
