Showtime Picks Up Crowe's "Roadies"
Fans of writer/director Cameron Crowe’s Oscar-winning ode to the rock & roll lifestyle Almost Famous can get another taste of life on the concert trail in 2016 when Crowe will write, direct and executive produce Roadies, a ten-episode comedy series just picked up by Showtime.
Crowe, who won the Academy Award for his Almost Famous script, created the show as "an insider’s look at the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a commited group of 'roadies' who live for music and the de facto family they’ve formed along the way." Roadies revolves around the backstage workers touring the United States for the successful arena-level group, The Staton-House Band. Kelly Curtis, Pearl Jam’s manager and a regular collaborator with Crowe, is also on board as producer and music supervisor.
Luke Wilson stars as the band’s tour manager opposite Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Carla Gugino as the production manager. Their unique personal and professional relationship is forever crashing and colliding as they guide the daily events of the band and crew of roadies.
Roadies is executive produced by Crowe, Emmy and Tony nominee Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life, Wicked), and Emmy winners J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk—both of Lost, Fringe and Person of Interest fame. The show is produced by Bad Robot Productions, Vinyl Films and Dooley & Company Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
