"The Iron Giant" Returns to Theaters
After more than a decade Brad Bird's The Iron Giant is returning to select theaters nationwide for two days (Wednesday, September 30 and Sunday, October 4) with an all-new presentation called the The Iron Giant: Signature Edition, in which the film has been completely remastered with new additional scenes!
When The Iron Giant arrived in theaters back in 1999, it was hailed as an “instant classic” by Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal and the world soon learned another “giant” had arrived as well: filmmaker Brad Bird, who made his stunning directorial debut with this film and has gone on to win two Academy Awards (The Incredibles and Ratatouille), as well as worldwide acclaim for his work on both animated and live-action features.
An impressive cast also gave memorable performances giving voice to the animation, including Vin Diesel (as the title character), Eli Marienthal (as the boy), Christopher McDonald, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick, Jr., M. Emmet Walsh and Cloris Leachman.
Despite being praised by critics and winning nine Annie Awards (the annual awards given out by the International Animated Film Association), The Iron Giant failed to capture a large audience at the time of its release. Fortunately the film has grown tremendously in popularity over the past 16 years. So much so that Bird not only remastered the film but also added two additional scenes for this special theatrical event and the impending Blu-ray release slated for later this year.
